Summary

The Laboratory Assistant oversees Front Office functions and ensures appropriate response to all phlebotomy requests during assigned shift. The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for all phases of Laboratory specimen collection handling and distribution as well as all supplementary computer functions. Assists in organization and storage of all Laboratory phlebotomy and office consumables. The Laboratory Assistant ensures appropriate report generation/ charting and delivery. The Laboratory Assistant performs and fulfills all HICS (Hospital Incident Command System) responsibilities as directed and needed by the facility in times of emergency disaster.

Qualifications - External
Education

Required: High school diploma or GED Certificate and Phlebotomy Training

Experience

Required: Six months or more of phlebotomy experience
Preferred: Clinical experience rotation as part of a Phlebotomy training program; One year of hospital or physician’s office-based phlebotomy experience

Certifications

Required: Not required
Preferred: Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Certification or National Phlebotomy Certification

Other Qualifications
  • Computer knowledge/experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
