Description

Oversee and manage all clinical and reception/scheduling staff. Oversee and supervise all patient care processes. Ensure all patients testing is appropriately scheduled, performed and documented. Oversee training of clinical and reception/scheduling staff to ensure excellent quality patient care. Perform chart audits and communicate recommendations for change.

  1. Personnel Management
    • Assist in recruitment, hiring, training and disciplinary action of clinical and reception/scheduling staff.
    • Supervise personnel including preparation and monitoring of job descriptions and personnel evaluations.
    • Develop and maintain training program for clinical and reception/scheduling staff including the immediate supervision of untrained assistants.
    • Appropriately schedule technical staff in accordance with clinic needs; 
    • Organize and conduct monthly meetings for technical and reception/scheduling staff.
    • Consult with practice administrator on problems and interpretation of policies to ensure patient needs are met.
    • Develop and implement protocols for continuing education of technical staff.
    • Plan and organize in-service training programs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to assist in the function and efficiency of the office
  2. Clinical Responsibilities
    • Assist in patient workups and diagnostic testing as needed
    • Provide back up support to other technicians and reception/scheduling staff 
    • Recognize and triage medical emergency situations according to office policy
    • Answer patient questions and telephone inquiries, including but not limited to attaining resolution of patient problems or complaints
    • Maintain inventory levels; order all clinical supplies
    • Ensure proper maintenance, repair and calibration of all ophthalmic equipment is scheduled and performed.
    • Trouble shoot malfunctioning equipment
  3. Quality Assurance
    • Implement and maintain internal chart review program
    • Provide continuing education resources to those that fall outside practice standards
    • Oversee continuous process improvement program
    • Implement and manage Quality Control
  4. Administrative
    • Troubleshoot any problems that arise in clinic
    • Consult with Physicians and practice administrator regarding scheduling templates and implement any changes or updates
    • Consult with insurance specialist to assist in claims payment which may include composing letters of medical necessity
    • Attend monthly management meetings
    • Provide support to practice administrator in his/her absence

Responsibilities: Position is responsible for supervision of technicians, receptionists and surgery coordinators. 

Qualifications

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.   Must possess some general medical knowledge including diseases and medications that are pertinent to patient care in ophthalmology. 

Experience:  Must have a minimum of 5 years in physician practice. Minimum of two years supervisory experience. Highly prefer ophthalmic practice experience.

Position deals with sensitive information regarding health care information and financial information for patients and the practice.
