Food Service Worker:
Prepares food for cafeteria and/or patient services and other areas as assigned.
Follows standardized recipes.
Works as a grill cook in cafeteria if needed.
Preps food for production as assigned.
Prepares salads and desserts according to standardized recipes.
Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of all equipment used in the kitchen.
Checks temperature of prepared foods at various times during the day.
Assures the timely delivery of food.
Checks patient trays-temperature and content.
Working from menus or verbal instructions, obtains needed supplies, foodstuffs, and utensils. Starts preparation and observes food during the cooking process, adjusting heat, stirring, or adding additional ingredients. Tests food for seasoning and proper preparation, including doneness and correct serving temperature. Prepares vegetables and cuts and carves meats and other entrees. Assists with short-order food preparation. Prepares food for special in-Hospital functions when necessary. Informally monitors preparation of other items in the kitchen, and provides guidance and assistance in correct preparation of food. Provides guidance and work direction to a Cook's Helper when one is assigned. Prepares baked good items (desserts) and some cold food preparations (cold cuts and sandwich spreads).
Sets up serving units on patient tray assembly line. Ensures food quality and proper HACCP temperature standards
Monitors supplies and informs Head Cook of needs.
Maintains the work area in a clean and orderly fashion. Observes all town and state health codes, and follows prescribed cleaning and sanitation procedures. Performs special cleaning assignments.
Other duties may be assigned as required to meet the operating needs of the Hospital. Such other duties may be added to or substituted for some of the duties included above, depending on patient census and other factors affecting workload at the time.
Exhibits a friendly, caring attitude to patients when introducing the Catering to You program, taking menu selections, delivering trays, inquiring during catering rounds and retrieving trays.
Takes patients menu selections prior to each meal.
Complies with dietary restrictions on special, modified diets to ensure optimal food preferences are met within guidelines of diet order limitations.
Offers alternatives to menu as allowed on prescribed diet in accordance with food allergies and sensitivities, cultural, ethnic and religious preferences, when patient inquires or needs additional selections.
Assembles trays according to patients menu on tray tickets in a timely and accurate manner.
Interacts with Nursing to ensure patients diet prescriptions are accurate, and patients food needs are met.
Completes catering rounds after passing trays to inquire if patient needs anything else.
Retrieves trays from patients rooms shortly after completing round.
Maintains accurate and current information for each patient on assigned unit(s).
Assists dietitian with monitoring of patients who are NPO, on liquid diets or have a calorie count ordered.
Communicates any patient related problems/concerns to appropriate personnel, in a timely manner following departmental procedures.
Adheres to facility confidentiality and patient s rights policy as outlined in the facility s HIPAA policies and procedures.
Required: High School Graduate or equivalent
