Trauma Registrar PRN Rotating Position Summary

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, the Trauma Registrar is responsible for abstraction, validation, and data entry of clinical information into the trauma data base. The registrar is also responsible for preparing submissions of hospital and patient data to the State Registry and National Trauma Data Base (NTDB) and any additional entities as required. The position requires knowledge of various software packages, data entry skill, knowledge of basic anatomy, ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM coding, e-codes, Injury Severity Scoring. The registrar will run basic and ad-hoc reports to assist the clinical teams in their performance improvement program (PIP) as requested by the Trauma Program Manager. A basic understanding of quality process and performance improvement as well as effective interpersonal skills is essential.

Special Skills: Proficient Computer Skills in MS Office Suite; knowledge of various software packages, data entry skills, knowledge of basic anatomy

THE TRAUMA REGISTRAR PRN ROTATING CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

PREFERRED EDUCATION: Associate degree in a health care related field

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 1 year in a health care setting

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 2 years in an acute care hospital

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Certified within 1-3 years of eligibility.

REQUIRED COURSE(S) TRAINING: Medical Terminology, Database Management, Report Writing Required Immediately; ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM Coding Training Certificate, AAAM AIS Scoring Certificate, ATS Trauma Registrar Certificate, and Trauma One Required within 1 year. Completion of a minimum of 8 hrs of trauma registry specific CE per year.

Description

The Trauma Registrar (RN) is responsible for the development, implementation, and participation in trauma registry practices that ensure accurate data, timely data entry and timely reporting. The Trauma Registrar (RN) will monitor the care provided to each trauma patient, collect information daily, report it for inclusion in the trauma registry database, and accurately perform hospital-based coding and injury severity score.
