Echo Technologist Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform echocardiograms on patients to assess heart function and detect abnormalities
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment ensuring it functions correctly
- Review and interpret preliminary results, highlighting any abnormal findings for the cardiologist
- Record and store echocardiogram images and patient information in the medical records system
- Collaborate with cardiologists and other healthcare team members to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment
- Follow safety protocols and infection control procedures to ensure patient and staff safety
- Maintain continuing education and stay updated with advances in echocardiography technology and practices
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families during the diagnostic procedure
Echo Technologist Qualifications & Skills
- Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency with advanced echocardiography techniques like stress echocardiography or transesophageal echocardiograms
- Experience working with a diverse patient population
- Proficiency in the use of ultrasound equipment and related technology
- Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to safety protocols
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Basic life support (BLS) certification
Qualifications
Education:
Required: Graduate of accredited CAAHEP or diagnostic medical sonography school and at least 6 months of clinical experience.
Experience:
Required: 6 months in clinical setting.
Preferred: 2 years.
Certifications:
Required: Registry eligible and AHA BLS.
Preferred: RDMS, RDCS, or RCS.
