Description
Performs patient treatments as indicated by the treatment plan. Documents treatments given, including frequent and objective measurements. Works with neonatal through geriatric patients with clinical competency. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

- Performs selected tests and measurements in consultation with the therapist
- Interprets the evaluation for frequently referred diagnosis, asking questions when necessary and seeking guidance concerning more complex situations
- Reviews patient chart and progress prior to treatment and modifies the treatment accordingly within parameters of the treatment plan
- Instructs and involves patient, family, and nursing staff in patient’s progress and discharge plans making appropriate discharge recommendations to the therapist and attends appropriate meetings
- Uses appropriate modalities and procedures demonstrating understanding of the therapist’s selection and asking for clarification as necessary
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrating knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan
- Maintains documentation on all treatments
- Assures appropriate equipment performance prior to each use
- Provides in-service to staff
- Organizes schedule to reflect patient priorities and needs of other staff
- Delegates responsibility to supportive personnel Provides clinical education for COTA students
- Informs supervisor of incidents, accidents, equipment failure or unusual physician or patient problems immediately
- Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
- Maintains safe environment
- Addresses patient population-specific needs
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities
Qualifications
Education:
Required: Associate degree in occupational therapy assistant, Active U.S. military service members, or veterans with any military service, training, or education verified and credited by an accredited OTA program is acceptable
Experience:
Preferred: 1 year of experience
Previous COTA experience in inpatient/outpatient setting
Certifications:
Required: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant by AOTA. Licensure, as required by State law. AHA BLS. Possession of current Texas State license
