Orthopedic Patient Navigator Full-Time Days
The Orthopedic Nurse Navigator is a registered nurse that is responsible for the coordination of clinical care for all patients in the service line. Under the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer and the Orthopedic Service Line Executive, the Nurse Navigator serves to support the implementation of quality initiatives and ultimately provide the highest level of patient experience. This position is a hybrid role involving coordination of program development from a clinical perspective and a navigator to support the patient journey from outpatient to inpatient care. The Nurse Navigator functions in an advisory capacity in evaluating proposed procedural changes as they relate to patient care and acts as a patient advocate to coordinate preadmission through discharge activities that enhance a positive hospital experience. The Nurse Navigator will ensure compliance with Standards of Care that promote optimum health care delivery, perform patient education, and directly communicate with providers on the medical staff to support all patients the service line. The Nurse Navigator will also be directly involved in the collection of patient data to support evidence based outcome metrics in the service line.

- Current unrestricted RN license in the State of South Carolina
- Minimum of five years recent acute hospital experience, orthopedic experience is required
- BSN or Master’s in Related field preferred
- Must have current BLS certification before completing orientation
- Excellent written communication skills and knowledge of electronic record documentation
- Certification in area of specialty Orthopedic Nurse Certified (ONC) required within 1 year of hire.
- The ability to effectively interact with all hospital management, employees, patients, visitors and medical staff through verbal and written forms of communication
- Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills necessary in order to support a multidisciplinary orthopedic team, participate in meetings, interview & evaluate others, and maintain excellent oral/written communication & organizational skills. Must be able to deal effectively with physicians and other health care team members when resolving problems/issues.
- Strong analytical skills necessary to be able to research information, compile statistics, computerized data entry, retrieval, reporting, and must be able to provide input into development of policies and procedures, and prepare monthly performance improvement reports. Intermediate Excel skills recommended.
- Ability to operate various office machines, computers, software packages, and patient therapeutic equipment and/or machines required.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail, deal effectively under emotionally and mentally stressful conditions with frequency when extremely sensitive/complex patient care, administrative, or employee problems and situations arise.
- Based on clinical specialty, has the knowledge, skills and abilities to make administrative and clinical decisions related to the assessments, treatment, and/or age-specific care of patients in the following age groups: adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient. The individual will demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provide care.
