The Vice President of Academic Operations/Designated Institutional Official (DIO) will work in conjunction with the National Director of GME, and will manage the following markets/regions within Tenet Health:

Desert Market - California

  1. Programs: Total 7 programs, 6 ACGME-accredited programs
  2. Reporting Structure: Reports to the National Director of GME
  3. Works alongside/in conjunction with: Hospital and program leadership
  4. Supervisory Role: Supervises GME Manager, GME office staff and program directors

Modesto Market - California

  1. Programs: 2 ACGME-accredited programs
    1. Reporting Structure: Reports to the National Director of GME
  2. Works alongside/in conjunction with: VCME staff, leadership & board, Designated Institutional Official (DIO)
  3. Supervisory Role: Supervises DIO

This position will sit at Desert Regional Medical Center.

Compensation

  • Pay: $215,072-$343,616 annually. Compensation depends on location, qualifications, and experience.
  • Position may be eligible for an Annual Incentive Plan bonus of 10%-25% depending on role level.
  • Management level positions may be eligible for sign-on and relocation bonuses.

The Vice President of Academic Operations will be responsible for the following in each assigned market/region within Tenet health:

  1. Responsible for monitoring and responding to the changes in the healthcare environment, understanding the effects on Graduate Medical Education (GME) and GME training.
  2. Acting as the DIO at Desert Regional and providing the appropriate leadership at each assigned market/regions within Tenet Health, to provide best practices in Academic Operations, with focus on Graduate Medical Education. 
  3. Act as the liaison between Program Directors, staff, and Executive Leadership of each assigned market/region, ensuring cohesiveness in mission and vision of GME.
  4. Ensure compliance with national standards for excellence and facilitating an environment which produces optimal educational outcomes in GME and acts as a leader in professionalism. 
  5. In concert with academic partners, and GME Leadership of each market/region, facilitate and oversee GME mission and strategies in Tenet facilities. 
  6. Oversee all aspects of GME operations in assigned market/region, including interfacing with academic partners, hospital leadership, clinics, Chairs and Program Directors to assure outstanding outcomes. 
  7. Monitor, facilitate, and review audits of Graduate Medical Education programs, reviewing compliance with all applicable ACGME documentation, conducting interviews (on an add-needed basis), and identifying trends in evaluations. 
  8. Lead ACGME-accredited programs in assigned regions/markets in preparing for self-studies, CLER, and site visits. 
  9. Promotion of excellence in GME programs within assigned region/market, ensuring compliance with ACGME Common, Specialty/Subspecialty specific program, and Institutional requirements, including but not limited to:
    1. Act as a voting member of the Graduate Medical Educational Committee (GMEC).
    2. Serve on the Special Review Committee for ACGME-accredited programs, and monitoring follow through with action plan.
    3. Provide mentorship to GME leadership, Program Directors, and Institutional Coordinators.
    4. Serve as a resource to the DIO, senior leadership, educational partners, program directors, program coordinators, and chairs for the latest operational standards.
    5. Ensures abundance of current Continued Medical Education (CME) for Program Directors, Physicians, Program Coordinators, Residents, Fellows, and all other applicable personnel. 
    6. Keep up to date and anticipate changes in GME programs due to changes in ACGME Institutional, Common, and Specialty-Specific requirements. 
  10. Serve as a member of senior leadership and champion of the GME, acting as the GME representative in clinical quality and patient safety teams of assigned markets/regions within Tenet Health. 
  11. Lead GME operations and support services to assigned markets/region within Tenet Health, ensuring a healthy and safe clinical and educational environment that provides access to:
    1. Food during clinical and educational assignments.
    2. Sleep/rest facilities that are safe, quiet, clean, and private, and that must be available and accessible for residents/fellows, with proximity appropriate for safe patient care.
    3. Safe transportation options for residents/fellows who may be too fatigued to safely return home on their own; clean and private facilities for lactation with proximity appropriate for safe patient care, and clean and safe refrigeration resources for the storage of breast milk.
    4. Safety and security measures appropriate to the clinical learning environment. 
    5. Accommodation for residents/fellows with disabilities, consistent with the Sponsoring Institution’s policy.
  12. Manage institutional engagement of all assigned markets/regions, in practices that focus on ongoing, mission-driven, systematic recruitment and retention of a diverse and inclusive workforce of residents/fellows, faculty members, senior administrative staff members, and other relevant members of its GME community.
  13. Oversee the learning and working environment to assigned markets/regions within Tenet Health
  14. Ensure access to systems for reporting errors, adverse events, unsafe conditions, and near misses in a protected manner that is free from reprisal and provide opportunities to contribute to root cause analysis or other similar risk-reduction processes.
  15. Manage the institutions well-being efforts through overseeing our ACGME-accredited program’s fulfillment of responsibility to address well-being of residents/fellows and faculty members, consistent with the common and specialty-/subspecialty-specific program requirements and working closely with the DIO to address areas of non-compliance in a timely manner. 
    1. In partnership with the applicable accreditation team members within each assigned region/market:
      1.  Support the efforts to educate faculty members and residents/fellows in identification of the symptoms of burnout, depression, and substance abuse.
  16. Oversee the GME budget process, in all assigned markets/regions, to include FTE to CAP and program budgets. In partnership with the several educational partners, execute annual budgeting processes that provide adequate resourcing and support to run quality GME programs. 
  17. Manage the GME faculty educational contracts in all assigned markets/regions within Tenet Healthcare. In partnership with each of our programs, the VP and operations team will ensure the availability of adequate resources for resident/fellow education, including:
    1. Financial support and protected time for the program director(s), core faculty, and teaching faculty to effectively carry out educational, administrative, and leadership responsibilities, as described in the Institutional, Common, and specialty-/subspecialty-specific Program Requirements
    2. Professional development support applicable to program directors’ and core faculty members’ responsibilities as educational leaders
    3. Oversee the contracting process, ensuring program minimums are met, contracts are executed in a timely manner, limiting disruptions in education due to clerical contract concerns
  18. Manage the employment of the residents/fellows of assigned regions/markets, ensuring:
    1. Residents/fellows are provided with a written agreement of appointment/contract outlining the terms and conditions of their appointment to a program. 
    2. In partnership with applicable personnel of each assigned region/market, monitor each of its ACGME-accredited programs with regard to implementation of terms and conditions of appointment. The operations team will ensure all ACGME required employment standards are met in accordance with IV.C.2. of the ACGME institutional requirements.
    3. Professional liability insurance to our residents/fellows including professional liability coverage, including legal defense and protection against awards from claims reported or filed during participation in each of its ACGME-accredited programs, or after completion of the programs if the alleged acts or omissions of a resident/fellow are within the scope of the programs.
    4. Health and disability insurance to our residents/fellows and their eligible dependents beginning on the first day of insurance eligibility, in compliance with all ACGME requirements.
  19. Ensure the support and adherence for all ACGME requirements and accreditation standards.  
  20. Act as a leader in professionalism, and ensuring all GME educational leaders provide a professional, equitable, respectful and civil environment that is free from unprofessional behavior, including mistreatment, abuse and/or coercion of residents/fellows, other learners, faculty members, and staff members.
  21. Engagement and support of the institutional mission to optimize accreditation activities such as GMEC, ADS, ERAS, and NRMP, accreditation site visits, and oversee accreditation staff to optimally manage GME support functions.
  22. All other duties as assigned by Desert Market, Modesto Market, and Tenet executive leadership.

Qualifications

•Detail oriented, flexible and demonstrate the ability to manage complex competing priorities

•Minimum of 10 years Graduate Medical Education experience

•Minimum of 5 years of direct management experience

•Education: Minimum Master’s degree or its equivalent 

•Experience with New Innovations, Concur and Kronos preferred

•Position requires 25% travel

 



Pay Range: $214,240 - $343,200 **Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience ***Calculated based on a full time position
