JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Vice President of Ambulatory Operations is a highly visible executive leader responsible for driving strategy, operational excellence, and growth across the region of outpatient care sites. This role demands a transformational leader who brings deep expertise in large-scale ambulatory operations, a sharp focus on performance metrics, and a relentless commitment to patient-centered care.
The Vice President of Ambulatory Operations is accountable for enhancing operational efficiency, provider productivity, access to care, financial performance, and overall patient and staff experience. The ideal candidate is a proactive change agent who can scale operations, standardize systems, lead innovation, and develop high functioning teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Define and execute a scalable, future-oriented ambulatory strategy in a competitive environment.
- Track record of leading large-scale operational transformations, executing high-growth initiatives, and driving organizational change in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Lead efforts to expand market presence, including site development, strategic partnerships, and care model innovation
- Serve as a key advisor to senior executives on outpatient growth, network optimization, and clinical integration.
Operational Excellence
- Direct the operational performance of a large, multi-site ambulatory care network.
- Implement enterprise-wide standardization of workflows, scheduling, throughput, and patient access strategies to ensure seamless, consistent, and high-quality care.
- Champion the use of analytics, automation, and operational dashboards to drive decision-making and accountability.
- Drive operational efficiency initiatives across all locations, ensuring streamlined processes, cost-effective management, and continuous improvement in patient care delivery.
Financial & Performance Management
- Strong understanding of financial management, including budgeting, cost management, and ROI assessment, with the ability to make strategic decisions based on financial data.
- Deliver measurable improvements in provider efficiency, cost management, and revenue growth.
- Drive access metrics (e.g., new patient wait times, same-day access), visit capacity, and care delivery productivity.
Clinical Integration & Value-Based Care
- Collaborate closely with provider and nursing leadership to ensure clinical alignment, population health readiness, and evidence-based care practices.
- Leverage technology platforms to support patient engagement and care continuity
- Regulatory Expertise: In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation requirements, and compliance standards within both the inpatient and outpatient sectors.
Leadership & Culture
- Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing leadership team.
- Drive a culture of excellence, ownership, collaboration, and equity—fostering an environment that attracts, retains, and grows top talent.
- Work closely with the Group CEO, senior leadership, providers, and clinical staff to ensure the alignment of goals, seamless integration of services, and successful execution of initiatives across the organization.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- A bachelor’s degree in business, or appropriately relevant field, is required. A Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or Public Health is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in complex ambulatory operations, with at least 5 years at the executive level overseeing multi-site operations.
- Proven track record of leading large-scale operational transformations and executing on high-growth, high-impact initiatives in a fast-paced, highly competitive healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence within a matrixed health system or integrated delivery network.
- Deep understanding of healthcare finance, access optimization, regulatory compliance, operations and strategy.
