Description:
SUMMARY
The operating room Registered Nurse / Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a professional Perioperative Registered Nurse who gives direct and indirect specialized nursing care to patients in surgery. The RN / RNFA is the patient ‘s advocate throughout the intraoperative experience and will be able to function in the circulating nurse role as well as RNFA. When in the role of Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) he/she is under the supervision of the sponsoring or attending surgeon for the intraoperative experience. and has the responsibility for providing exposure and hemostasis as directed and supervised by the surgeon. .The RNFA also handles tissues, sutures and places drains as directed by the surgeon. The nursing process is used as a framework for these activities. Demonstrates the ability to interpret information to identify the patient’s age specific needs and provides appropriate care for the age group in question. The peri-operative nurse in the circulating role coordinates the care of the patient, is the patient advocate throughout the intra operative experience.Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
2504000126MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of Registered Nurse Program. Periop 101 Program or comparable. Graduate of an RNFA program with curriculum which includes didactic and preceptor training. Certification 3 months after attaining minimum hours necessary to be eligible for certification.
Experience: One year as an RN in an acute operating room setting
License: REGISTERED NURSE
Certification: BLS/CPR (AMERICAN HEART ASSN) RNFA Certification after 3 months of minimum hours required for certification eligibility
