Summary

Evaluates, plans and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy or physical therapy for treatment of patients with hand, wrists, elbows and shoulders. Functions as an interdisciplinary team member providing patient assessment/re-assessment, direct patient care, and individualized care planning/implementation.

Responsibilities

Responds to physician orders for physical therapy or occupational therapy. Administers and interprets tests and measurements of patients. Reviews patient charts and progress prior to treatment and modifies treatment plan accordingly. Develops functional goals based on patient and/or family expectations. Builds and applies custom splints based on patients individual need when applicable. Develops, improves and restores functional mobility, seeking to return patient to highest level of independence. Seeks clarification of physician orders as needed.

Qualifications – Experienced Certified Hand Therapist

Education

Required: Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy or Doctorate Physical Therapy

Experience

Preferred: 2 years as a practicing CHT (PT or OT) in an outpatient healthcare setting; Ability to build and apply custom splinting

Certifications

Certified Hand Therapist Required

Required: State of Texas Licensure
