Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Lead Bio Tech to oversee work order control, PM schedules and generation; parts purchase request and equipment history records. Assists with coordinating regular and on call scheduling for Biomedical Technicians. Assists with staff training, in-services, policy and procedures, regulatory compliance and software data management. Establishes and maintains supporting technical literature, such as manufacturer’s literature, references standards, specifications and other documents necessary for supporting the Biomedical Program. Performs preventive maintenance, safety tests, incoming inspections, installation, troubleshooting, repair and calibration, for all patient care equipment. Schedules repair service and attempts to reduce repair cost with vendors. Serves as an advisor to appropriate hospital committees. Demonstrates cost-effective decision making skills. Performs all other duties assigned
What your day will look like:
- Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Engineering Department.
- Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired concerning the personal, financial, and medical or employment status of patients of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Sunnyvale. Follow accepted safety practices for patients and hospital. Report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action. Participate in safety and infection control instructional programs. Participate in Performance Improvement activities. Communicate in an acceptable and easily understood manner. Observe excellent customer service skills when dealing with patients, families and/or significant others, outside vendors, co-workers and physicians.
- Understands the concept of Preventive Maintenance. Demonstrates knowledge of codes and standards, guidelines and test procedures used to verify performance.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and repair medical and non-medical equipment using test equipment.
- Understands the importance of documenting the maintenance history of medical equipment. Completes documentation for schedules and unscheduled work performed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology and ability to use it effectively in a clinical setting.
- Demonstrates knowledge of medical equipment and has a good understanding of its use in the medical environment.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to assist with staff training in the case of user errors. Provides technical and clinical support.
- Maintains a clean work area. Uses designated locations to store spare parts, incoming and outgoing parts and equipment. Uses “tags” to identify equipment / parts status. Promptly orders spare parts and when required ensure parts are return to vendor (i.e., exchange parts, cores, etc.)
- Demonstrates knowledge of QA processes, is able to identify QA issues, provides and implements corrective action plan.
- Maintains a good relationship with co-workers in Plant services and Biomed. Displays willingness to assist co-workers with assigned tasks.
- Has completed an annual review of Biomedical Department Policies and Procedures.
- Works day, evening or night shift as assigned.
- Ability to do work on his/her own with only normal supervision.
- Ability to work well on his/her own and to inspect facilities and equipment.
- A working knowledge of nurse call, fire alarm and signal systems.
- A thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain plant tools and equipment.
- Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.
- Participates in performance improvement and information management activities.
- Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify each patient’s age-specific needs to promote a safe environment needed by the patient group.

Success Factors:
- Associate’s Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or military medical repair specialist school or equivalent electronic training and experience, required.
- Concepts and techniques in solving complex technical problems as would be acquired by 5 years of industry experience with at least 3 years hospital experience required. Working familiarity with JCAHO accreditation standards preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages preferred.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Basic computer knowledge.
