Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Business Office Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of assigned business office areas, ensuring the efficient and accurate performance of all patient accounting functions, including account maintenance, billing, and collections. The Supervisor assists the Patient Access Director with departmental reports and provides support across all admission areas: Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Room, Day Surgery, Auditors, and Customer Service. Key responsibilities include staff training, performance objective achievement, schedule creation, and time-off management. This individual ensures adherence to all insurance, state/federal, and corporate guidelines, facilitates meetings, and collaborates with other departments to maximize revenue collection for services provided.
What your day will look like:
- Demonstrates the ability to direct and coordinate the patient accounting function in order to consistently produce accurate bills which are paid in a timely manner.
- Monitors activities continually with collection agencies, insurance companies, Admitting, Health Information Management Services, Information Systems, patients and physicians; coordinates operation and recommends corrective action, as appropriate.
- Maintains a current awareness of third-party reimbursement regulations and contractual arrangements with HMOs and PPOs.
- Effectively coordinates the Patient Accounts function with Accounts Receivable, Admitting, Health Information Management Services and Nursing departments on a routine basis.
- Continually works toward establishing an environment within the department which reduces the “paper shuffle” through increased use of computer technology and more effective methods of activity consolidation.
- Demonstrates the ability to devise more efficient methods and systems for getting the work done in the department; reduces the use of time and effort to an effective minimum; institutes changes in techniques and procedures as necessary.
- Promotes good staffing practices by maximizing the utilization of human resources; forecasts and anticipates the personnel needs of the department with regard to fluctuations in the projected workload; holds staffing at a functional minimum; effectively employs part-time help.
- Assists in the organization of the department in a manner that is consistently responsible to patient/customer needs.
- Consistently demonstrates good organizational skills in the routine accumulation of statistical information and reports it to the Business Office Direcor or Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in an accurate and timely manner.
- Effectively maintains all required records for the department; demonstrates good organizational skills.
Success Factors:
- High school graduate, with some college courses.
- Five or more years of previous hospital experience in all aspects of business office functions.
- Knowledge of JCAHO and state regulations for both acute and skilled nursing facilities.
- Ability to work with physicians in a collaborative manner.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Additional languages preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Cerner experience preferred
