The Market Clinical Informatics Director (MCID) is a leadership position that aligns the market with information systems (IS) and clinical operations at the enterprise level. The MCID is a liaison accountable at the market or group level for maintaining standards, achieving clinical metrics using data, and advancing clinical and IS initiatives consistent with the goals and objectives outlined by executive leaders. The MCID oversees the activity of the assigned Market Clinical Informatics Managers and the Market EMR Coaches ensuring an effective and efficient process for proactive rounding and elbow support of clinicians using the EMR.
The MCID provides guidance and direction in the implementation of clinical applications and the support of clinical projects, initiatives, and changes to the EMR. The MCID will direct and influence change at the market level to improve clinical workflow associated with the EMR. The MCID will collaborate with the RCID, CDL, MDI and EMR Coaches in the market to promote the adoption of clinical applications and meet clinical and IS performance metrics through the use of data. The MCID advocates for the group or market and represents the CI community on project sub-groups and national calls as directed by the CDL.
The MCID provides mentorship and guidance to the Market Clinical Informatics Managers and EMR Coaches to ensure they are fulfilling their role as an informatics subject matter expert with maximum effectiveness. The MCID has a direct report to the Market CDL.
The MCID demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and ensures that communications are clear, concise, timely and align with clinical and IS strategic imperatives. The MCID role is a critical role accountable for improving provider and clinician satisfaction, maintaining standards, meeting performance metrics, and improving overall adoption and optimization of the EHR.
Qualifications:
- Required: Current RN license
- Required: Master’s degree in nursing. Exceptions to education requirements may be approved by Regional Clinical Informatics Director.
- Required: 5 years of experience in clinical informatics, with 3 years in a multi-hospital organization in support and optimization of electronic patient records (EHR) using corporate-wide standards. Experience with major acute care EHR vendors (i.e., Cerner, Epic, Meditech) a plus.
- Preferred: Certification in nursing informatics with ANCC. Must obtain certification within the first year.
- Proven ability to develop, maintain and collaborate with multi-disciplinary leaders.
- Demonstrated knowledge in problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution and critical thinking.
- Understanding of clinical workflow, hospital operations and technology integration into clinical practice
- Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills required.
- Must serve as a model of credibility, professionalism, and customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, be innovative and lead change.
- Regarded as a highly visible, motivated, credible, and respected leader of clinical informatics.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office products and EMR application(s)
