Radiology Coding Cord FT Days Position Summary

Accountable for training associates in accordance with official coding guidelines, regulatory standards, DRG assignment, APC methodology and coding principles to ensure corporate compliance in all areas of the coding position. Responsible for ensuring effectiveness of training by performing coding and DRG assignment audits.

Responsibilities:

Train associates on coding guidelines, regulatory standards and principles.
Perform coding and DRG audits.
Ensure accuracy and timely coding for patient services.
Coordinate schedules and follow-up on edits.
Utilize effective training skills, ethical practices, official coding guidelines, and regulatory standards to train new and existing associates in principles of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding.
Monitor effectiveness of training to ensure accuracy and completeness. Re-trains as necessary.
Apply official coding guidelines and regulatory standards to performance of coding medical records so that CHN meets the ethical and legal standards set by regulatory and governing agencies.
Review medical record documentation so that coding substantiates appropriate reimbursement of accounts receivables. Meet CHN coding quality standards.
Maintain coding pre-bill exception dollars in accordance with CHN goals.
Meet CHN coding productivity standards to achieve and maintain coding pre-bill accounts receivables so that cash flow goals and billing deadlines are met on a continuous basis.
Research and initiate activity to resolve complex charge processing and coding issues.
Coordinate completion of billing reminders to ensure timely resolution of coding/billing issues. Recognize potential for additional coding revenues and recommend procedures for implementation.

Level 2 – Proficient (in addition to above duties)
Enter information on computer to track or maintain department information.
Provide assistance with special events and/or projects as requested.

Level 3 – Subject Matter Expert (in addition to above duties)
Assist the Manager/Director as requested in review and update of department functions and procedure revisions.
Participate in quality improvement measures.

THE RADIOLOGY CODING CORD FT DAYS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.

Education
Required: High School Diploma with college-level medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Preferred: Associate or Bachelor Degree in Health Information Technology

Licensure
Preferred: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) / Technician (RHIT)

Certificates
Required: RHIA, RHIT, or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
Preferred: RHIA or RHIT

Experience
Required: Four years in all patient types in hospital health information coding field.
Preferred: Five years in hospital health information coding.

Skills
Required: Hospital ICD-9-CM (ICD-10) and CPT Coding and DRG and APC assignment for all inpatient and outpatient service lines, communication, interpersonal, team-building, self-motivation, detail-oriented, and accountability. Ability to train associates in the application of coding. Ability to develop and communicate schedules and assignments.
Preferred: Above plus collaborative, critical-thinking decision-making, and detail-oriented.

Knowledge
Required: Extensive knowledge of Official ICD-9-CM and CPT coding guidelines, Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS) guidelines, Correct Coding Initiative. Medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, disease process, pharmacology, laboratory values benchmarks and pathology. Ability to read and understand medical records and hospital course, DRG and APC assignment. Ability to analyze and solve problems and make evaluative judgments.
Preferred: Required plus coding software and computer mainframe interfacing.

Technology
Required: Basic computer skills, ICD-9-CM and CPT coding, DRG and APC assignment.
