Summary
Surgical Technician / Surgical Tech assists with the nursing care of the patients in the OR by performing routine and delegated duties according to the standards of practice and policy and procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse at all times. Serves as a scrub nurse, but not independently as a circulating nurse. Other duties of a Surgical Technician / Surgical Tech includes stocking, replenishing, preparing, and/or selecting supplies and equipment for storage or use during surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician / Surgical Tech assists with housekeeping functions to maintain cleanliness in the OR. Activities are directed toward achieving desired patient outcomes.The Surgical Technician / Surgical Tech demonstrates the ability to interpret information to identify the patient’s age specific needs and provides appropriate care for the age group in question. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications - External

Education
Required: High school graduate or GED. Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program or equivalent, or On The Job Training
Preferred: Certification in the field for this Surgical Technician role

Experience
Preferred: 1 year experience as surgical technician

Certifications
Required: BLS (American Heart) and CSFA
Preferred: Surgical Technology Certification
