Summary

Under the general direction of the laboratory director or pathologist, performs a wide array of laboratory tests. Oversees histology laboratory department operations. Supervises the technical and support personnel in the department, guiding and developing their performance. Responsible for achieving quality improvement, fiscal, productivity and customer/employee satisfaction goals and objectives in areas of responsibility. The lead is responsible for processing, cutting, staining and mounting of tissue specimens to provide data on the nature of disease or cause of death. Receives and accurately processes surgical, diagnostic tissue or body fluid specimens from various hospital departments. The lead oversees the daily workflow. This includes troubleshooting equipment issues, reviewing quality control, scheduling personnel, and assisting with regulatory review of procedures, PI and competency testing as requested.


Qualifications

EDUCATION

Minimum: Experience and/or education should relate to any combination recognized by State of Florida for license as a Histology Technologist. One year as Histology Technologist in an acute care hospital laboratory or equivalent.
Preferred: BS degree, HTL(ASCP) or equivalent certification.

EXPERIENCE

Three to five years’ experience as a Histology Technologist in an acute care hospital laboratory and one year of supervisory experience preferred.

LICENSE

Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor License in Histology.
