Senior IT Network Architect - Remote based in the US

This is a senior position of significant influence reporting directly to the Senior Director of Infrastructure Services. The Senior IT Network Architect is responsible for the strategic design, development, and governance of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role leads the architecture and planning of enterprise network solutions that support business operations, cloud integration, security requirements, and long-term technology strategy. The Senior IT Network Architect provides technical leadership across network engineering teams and collaborates with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure scalable, reliable, and secure network environments.
The Senior IT Architect: Network role will provide expert consulting and guidance to aid the resolution of advanced and persistent issues. This role will also participate on and lead selected projects, engage external vendors, and collaborate with internal Architecture, Engineering, and Operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise network architecture strategies that support business objectives, scalability, performance, and security requirements.
- Lead the architecture and design of complex network infrastructures including LAN, WAN, data center, cloud networking, and hybrid environments.
- Define network architecture standards, design principles, reference architectures, and best practices for the organization.
- Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend solutions that improve reliability, performance, security, and cost efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to network engineers and other IT staff in architecture, design, and implementation of network solutions.
- Develop high-level and low-level network designs, including diagrams, documentation, and implementation plans.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure network architectures align with security frameworks, compliance requirements, and risk management practices.
- Oversee integration of networking technologies including routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, SD-WAN, VPNs, wireless networks, and cloud connectivity.
- Lead network transformation initiatives such as cloud migration, data center modernization, zero-trust networking, and software-defined networking.
- Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, and network optimization to ensure high availability and service reliability.
- Partner with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams to ensure network architecture supports application performance and system integration requirements.
- Participate in vendor evaluations, technology selection, and strategic procurement decisions for networking hardware, software, and services.
- Develop and maintain network architecture documentation, roadmaps, standards, and operational procedures.
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting guidance and root-cause analysis for complex network issues affecting critical systems.
- Ensure network architecture supports business continuity, disaster recovery, and high-availability requirements.
- Support budgeting and forecasting for network infrastructure investments and lifecycle management.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and security threats impacting network architecture.
- Communicate architecture strategies and technical designs to both technical teams and executive stakeholders.
Qualifications
Experience
- Bachelors degree or equivalent education/experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, network architecture, or infrastructure design.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale network architectures.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex network design initiatives across large, multi-site environments.
Technical Expertise
- Expert knowledge of enterprise networking technologies including routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and QoS.
- Extensive experience with enterprise network infrastructure including firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, wireless networks, and network monitoring systems.
- Strong experience with modern network architectures such as SD-WAN, software-defined networking (SDN), and zero-trust network models.
- Experience designing and supporting hybrid and cloud networking architectures (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
- Deep understanding of network security principles including segmentation, secure remote access, encryption, and threat mitigation.
- Proficiency with network design tools, architecture diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience with high availability, redundancy design, and disaster recovery planning for network infrastructure.
Leadership and Strategic Skills
- Proven ability to develop long-term network architecture strategies and technology roadmaps.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and mentoring network engineers.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for complex network environments.
- Ability to translate business requirements into scalable and secure technical architectures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Certifications
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
- Cloud networking certifications such as AWS Advanced Networking Specialty, Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate, or similar.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience working in highly regulated or large enterprise environments is preferred.
- Strong understanding of IT governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
- Ability to manage multiple strategic initiatives while maintaining attention to detail and operational impact.
Compensation
- Pay: $114,192 - $182,416 annually. Compensation depends on location, qualifications, and experience.
- Position may be eligible for an Annual Incentive Plan bonus of 10%-40% depending on role level.
- Management level positions may be eligible for sign-on and relocation bonuses.
