Job Summary

Full Time, Nights

Up to $5,000 SOB for qualified candidates, paid over 24 months.

Position Summary

A Monitor Technician is responsible for monitoring the heart rhythm pattern of patients to detect
abnormal pattern variances using telemetry equipment. Reviews patient information to determine normal
heart rhythm pattern, current pattern, and prior variances. Observes cardiac monitor and listens for
alarms to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm. Informs Assistant Nurse Manager and/or
Registered Nurse of variances to initiate examination of patient.

Responsibilities

1. Reports for scheduled shift on time and prepared to assume job responsibilities.

  • Reports to work in proper uniform or attire including ID badge worn in a visible location.
  • Leaves for breaks on time and returns on time.
  • Varies work schedule to meet the needs of the department.
  • Ensures all overtime is approved by the department supervisors.
  • Schedules all time off with supervisors approval.
  • Strictly adheres to hospital attendance policy.

2. Attends and participates in meetings and is responsible for information communicated.

  • Attends all mandatory in-services as scheduled.
  • Participates as an active team member at staff meetings.
  • Reads communication and acts upon in a positive manner.

3. Adheres to Corporate, Regional, hospital and departmental policy and procedure.

  • Reads and comprehends the company's Standards of Conduct. During the past evaluation period, has demonstrated compliance with the company's Ethics program.
  • Understands that compliance with Corporate Integrity Program is a condition of employment and violation of any principals or practices if the program will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient/employee/facility/corporate information 100% of the time.
  • Accepts change as an opportunity for growth, learning and development; adapts to changing procedures and goals in a cooperative and positive manner.

4. Assists all patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees in a professional and courteous manner. Adheres to AIDET protocol.

  • Demonstrates respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and a genuine willingness to prevent or resolve inter-personal conflicts.
  • Demonstrates the ability to participate in and/or implement team decisions.
  • Actively participates in and encourages actions that promote good public relations with patients’ families, visitors and the community.
  • Works together in a spirit of teamwork.

5. Follows Infection Control procedures at all times.

Clinical Personnel

  • Strictly adheres to Standard Precautions by adhering to the usage of personal protective equipment when handling blood or body fluids.
  • Washes hands and other skin surfaces with soap and water thoroughly and immediately if contaminated with blood or other body fluids and before and after patient contact.
  • Adheres to isolation procedures and techniques at all times as applicable.

6. Adheres to the following environmental care standards.

  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of Safety Policies and Procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, Hazardous Material procedures, and Safety Codes.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of Security issues, i.e., personal protection, protection of personnel and hospital property.

7. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or Equivalent; and Evidence of the successful completion of a Rhythm Recognition course or evidence of the successful completion of an EMT or Paramedic training recognized by the State of Florida for licensure as an EMT or Paramedic.
  • Preferred: In addition to the above, completion of a 12 – lead EKG course is desirable.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous Monitor Technician experience preferred.


REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION:

  • Current BLS Card approved by the American Heart Association (AHA)


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize efficiently.
  • Must be able to handle a multi-task environment while maintaining excellent customer service.
