Position Summary:
Under general direction from the Director of Sterile Processing , the Sterile Processing Manager provides daily oversight of CSS operations to ensure that all surgical supplies, instruments and equipment are properly inventoried, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed and tracked in a high quality, timely and safe manner. Collaboratively with director of Sterile Processing manages human resources to include staffing, scheduling payroll and associate relations and physician relations; tissue management and tracking; information systems administration; inventory management; vendor management; and budget equipment and labor expenses. The Sterile Processing Manager assumes 24-hour accountability for the management of the Sterile Processing Department, coordinating care, processing and provision of surgical instrumentation, surgical supplies and certain house supplies throughout the hospital system while complying with all hospital and regulatory agency policies, procedures and protocols in a high quality and cost effective manner.
Possesses extensive knowledge of the sterile processing of instrumentation and supplies.
Assures that the standards of operation of the department comply with the standards set by regulatory agencies, such as the
State Department of Health, Joint Commission and others.
Effectively work with the Director of SPD and oversees administrative and operational issues for the designated care delivery
team.

Assures staffing to meet patient care needs and operational guidelines.
Works with the Director of Spd, Clinical Coordinator and employees to identify orientation and educational needs of team
members
Participates in coaching, counseling and mentoring of unit personnel.

Telemetry/Medical/Surgical Services
Collaborates with the Director of Spd to monitors vacancy and turnover rates, implementing unit programs to achieve
minimal vacancies and reduce turnover.
Functions as a department team leader to support unit and hospital goals and objectives.
Collaborates with appropriate others in the short and long range planning for the department, and/or organization.
Supports performance improvement programs and works collaboratively with others to identify needs, recommendations and
operationalizes changes on a department level.
Serves and actively participates on designated hospital committees/task forces as needed.
Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety
codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.
Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers.
Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
Daily operational oversight: Provides daily oversight of CSS operations to ensure that all surgical supplies, instruments and
equipment are properly inventoried, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed and
tracked in a high quality, timely and safe manner.
Human Resources: Manages departmental human resources to include staffing, scheduling, payroll and associate / physician
relations.
Tissue management and tracking: Oversees proper inventory, tracking and documentation of tissues, implants and explants.
Information systems administrator: Services as administrator for inventory and tracking information systems within
department; prepares and analyzes reports for Director of Sterile Processing
Inventory manager: Services as chief inventory manager for all instruments and clinical equipment within the peri-operative
environment. Orders and manages special needs items as required. Ensures maintenance and PMs are performed as per
manufacture guidelines and recommendations.
Vendor management: Oversees vendor processes, policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Reports any variances to
standards of performance.
Financial oversight: Works with Sterile Processing Director to ensure budget, equipment and labor expenses are managed
accordingly. Reports variances. Assists with capital and operating budget planning.
EDUCATION:
Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Graduate of Sterile Processing Program, Certification in Sterile Processing
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years of experience in sterile processing; one year supervisory or management experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION:
Certified Central Service Technician or Certified Surgical Technician
