Position Summary

1. Coordinates the delivery of care for patients in the Cardiology Unit in a safe and appropriate

manner.

2. Oversees the entering of patient charges to assure accuracy and timeliness

3. Deals effectively and pro-actively with physicians, patients and family members. Works

collaboratively with other members of the management team for effective patient care.

4. Assists the Director of Cardiology/Unit Director in areas of coverage and supply acquisition for

the unit

5. Responsible for the day in and out operations of the cardiology unit.

6. Coordinates the interdepartmental activities of hospital associates through the interpretation of

hospital standards.

7. Functions as the extension of the department director

8. Coordinates the delivery of care and schedules various procedures with multiple departments

9. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to interact with various age of clients served

in the course and scope of his/her job duties. Demonstrates expertise in the performance of

test procedures and he/she will also accept responsibility and accountability of being in charge

in the absence of leadership.

10. Serves as a resource in the resolution of complex patient care issues.

· Investigates patient complaints and /or patient care incidents immediately, takes

actions, documents and reports to the appropriate directors

11. Serves as a role model for professional behaviors

· Supports awareness and compliance with established standards

· Provides immediate intervention required to develop employees and enhance their

performance

· Provides input into developing the department and any program within its scope

· Provide input as requested on selected employee issues to department director and evaluates all nursing staff concerning nursing functions

12. Evaluates situations related to patients, families, physicians, or other hospital departments and helps initiate and evaluate actions taken.

· Responsible for communication with the administrator on Duty

· Identifies, intervenes, and reports unsafe and unsatisfactory environmental conditions

· Investigates, follow up and recommends changes on the availability of adequate resources to appropriate directors.

· Serves as a resource

· Provides director with concurrent information on unit activities

· Attends PI related meetings where process and patient care continuum are discussed and supported

· Responsible for facilitating departmental PI activities

· Assures patient transfers in and out of SPHN facilities meet standards defined in policy

13. Complies with established departmental budget guidelines regarding staffing and other related issues

· Reviews staffing on a daily basis and adjusts according to intensity of care needs and standards

14. Directs flow of patients and eliminating delays. Supervising the schedule.

· Increase patient and physician satisfaction in this area

· Monitors for procedural delays and patient throughout the non invasive area

· Monitors scheduling issues related to patients and staff insuring the appropriate staffing mix is maintained to meet patient needs

15. Demonstrates organization and leadership ability.

· Monitors Kronos/Optilink and staff time keeping. Keeps overtime to a minimum

· Consistently documents for non-with policy (as required; late clock ins, absenteeism, minor incidents) utilizing performance management policy

· Develops plan of action to address issues and discuss with director and appropriate staff

· Actively participates in the resolution of any outstanding issues

· Recognizes and assists in educational process to assure improvement of staff knowledge base.

· Participates in orientation of new personnel and assures evaluation and skills checklist are completed in the required time frames.

· Maintains communication with staff members on policy and procedure committees and assists in relaying information to staff in monthly unit meetings

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma plus some college or business training
  • Or technical or vocational training.

Required Licenses/Certification: CPR

  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English
  • Ability to learn and integrate technical aspects of the EKG department as a whole
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions under stress and emergency situations
  • Ability to use computers (i.e. Microsoft Office, EKG Database software)

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 5 year clinical experience, non-invasive cardiology experience
