Job Summary

Job Type: Full Time
Job Shift: Rotating

Receives and transports patients in a safe and timely manner to their designated destination. Will document request for services in order to provide an accurate and timely tracking system. Will maintain wheelchairs, stretchers, and all other used equipment in clean and sanitary condition, as well as proper working order (i.e., oiling wheels of such equipment). Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

General Functions:
• Demonstrates ability to transport all types of patients; including but not limited to transport of hazardous 
(Chemotherapy) and non-hazardous medication
• Demonstrates proper handling and basic functions of equipment available to transport: Beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, Oxygen. Regulators, safety belts
o Ensure patient bedrails in appropriate position
o Oxygen tank in appropriate carrier/location
o IV poles/medications properly secured
o Foley bags secured, not dragging on floor
• Verbalizes and demonstrates ability to utilize communication systems, and responsible for having 
appropriate functional communication method at all times to ensure uninterrupted communication
• Verbalizes importance of communicating all patient safety concerns to nursing unit and/or appropriate receiving unit
• Operates equipment and performs all procedures safely, including use of proper body mechanics and protective personal equipment when deemed appropriate for safety
• Verbalizes and maintains appropriate communication with supervisor/lead regarding patient flow to and from and within department(s)
• Verbalizes and demonstrates understanding of Ticket to Ride, documents as required per facility protocol/procedure
• Recognizes changing patient condition and modifies plan by using resources, chain of command and Rapid Response Team (RRT) promptly and appropriately
• Assimilates and prioritizes information sources to take immediate and decisive patient-focused action by routinely performing patient rounds and addressing concerns timely
• Maintains a safe environment and responds with confidence and adapts to rapid changing patient 
conditions and emergent situations
• Appropriately documents specific to patient and identified problem for care provided
• Coordinates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in the planning and management of 
patient care transportation to meet patient needs
• Responds to the unique needs of patients and families, escalates concerns as needed 
• Monitors and allocates patient care services, recognizing the fiduciary role of working in a resource  intensive environment
• Maintains and promotes professional standards with a constructive, proactive approach and development 
by participating in Performance Improvement needs, in-services, committees and staff meetings
• Serves as a role model for compassionate care and service excellence and commits to support the hospital’s mission and vision
• Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times
• Facilitates problem resolution and team collaboration among staff by displaying a positive attitude within 
department and other colleagues to contribute to customer service program, and assists leadership by 
mentoring and coaching staff
• Serves as a resource, anticipates the needs of others and offers positive suggestions and productive feedback
• Facilitates patient movement within the department and through the facility, proactively managing patient 
admission, discharges via transport including the ability to prioritize to maximize efficiency and recognize  acuity levels
• Effectively manages patient hand-offs at shift change and between department and facilities; utilizes 
documentation tools for hand-offs as required
• Abides by regulatory agencies standards and provides every patient the defined standard of care
• Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively by demonstrating independence and resourcefulness 
• Adheres to Tenet Standard of Conduct as well as hospital policies and procedures
• Attends safety training programs and demonstrates adherence to proper hospital exposure procedures
• Is self-driven and actively pursues personal and professional development including a constructive 
approach with colleagues
• Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the specific unit as defined in the scope of service and demonstrates effective unit specific skills
• Maintains required competencies, certifications, online education and assures orientation to floating unit is completed by deadline date
• Balances team and individual responsibilities and is objective and open to others' views
• Demonstrates dependability/flexibility and assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned
• Performs all responsibilities/duties required by specific unit/department.
• Verbalizes and demonstrates ability to escalate unsafe conditions throughout the hospital
• Respects privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information and situation

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: 
• Required- High School Diploma or GED


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 
• Required-None
• Preferred- Patient transportation or customer service experience


REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: 
• Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)if American Red Cross, must obtain American Heart Association within 60-days of hire


REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES:
• Ability to transport patients from one area of the hospital to another as needed
• Ability to use computer driven patient care equipment to include cleaning as applicable 
• Has effective interpersonal and communication skills
