Job Summary
Administers optimal patient care by planning, organizing and implementing an occupational therapy program. Utilizes occupational therapy programs to maximize patient’s functional independence. Evaluates, plans, and implements treatments for individual patients referred to by the physician in an inpatient acute level setting. Establishes appropriate plan of cares to promote early mobilization, training in self-care tasks, and facilitating a safe discharge plan for patients. Collaborating with other clinical staff to aid in patient’s overall care plan. Builds and establishes an outpatient occupational therapy program at Fort Mill Medical Center. Evaluates, plans, and implements treatments for individual patients referred by the physician in an outpatient level setting. Conducts outpatient administrative duties necessary to maintain an outpatient caseload; i.e. scheduling of appointments, maintaining a system of outpatient records. Assists with review and development of department and program policies and procedures and with the supervision/education of other staff. All assessment and treatment approaches will be appropriate and specific to population served including general rehabilitation services to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates assigned patients using appropriate tools and following program protocols within established timeframes. Develops individualized treatment plan incorporating functional tasks appropriate for each patient after medical record review and patient evaluation. Establishes appropriate and measurable long and short-term goals as determined by medical record review and evaluation. Implements treatment plan in accordance with patient and multi-disciplinary team goals in a timely manner. Re-assesses and modifies goals as needed as determined by medical record review and/or SC practice act. Progresses patient logically and sequentially to meet long-range goals. Consistently complies with established protocols and specific physician orders for evaluation and treatment. Demonstrates appropriate handling skills/techniques during patient treatment. Participated in discharge planning process for all assigned patients.
- Knowledge of growth and development. Demonstrates a strong knowledge and application of age- specific needs into treatment planning. Possess appropriate age-specific communication and interaction skills.
- Assigns appropriate tasks involving patient care and non-patient care, giving instructions as necessary. Takes responsibility for determining if task is completed as assigned and provides feedback to support personnel. Utilizes support personnel as outlined by regulations of the State of South Carolina and AOTA.
- Completes documentation including variance notes, in accordance with regulatory requirements and professional documentation standards. Documents appropriately on contact note according to policy and procedure. Documents education on pt/family education form in patient family education section of medical record. Completes all documentation within 24 hours of completing a test or procedure.
- Manages full caseload in accordance with productivity standards established by facility.
Provides appropriate treatment time to each patient to maximize functional outcomes.
- Adjusts schedule to accommodate unforeseen conditions or circumstances.
Analyzes and applies appropriate functional limitation rating during evaluations and reassessments of all Medicare patients, considering the patient’s therapy CAP limitations and educating patients as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Education: Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy
- Licensure/Certification:
- Must have current licensure in South Carolina and National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
- Preferred:
- Experience: A minimum of one year experience preferred
