Job Summary

Job Summary

Responsible for conducting initial and on-going neonatal neuro-developmental assessments and providing written evaluations (N.I.D.C.A.P. format) and care plans for the infant's chart, family and the State of Arizona. Responsible for providing written plans/reports to the State of AZ on a quarterly and annual basis, as well as attending required state meetings. Provides optimal developmental interventions to high risk infants following accepted standards. Provides appropriate developmental education to families, staff and the community as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Coordination: Assists in formulating with team members individualized developmentally supportive care strategies impacting long term outcomes. Provides feedback to staff to promote excellence in care. 
  • Provides regular formal Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) and/or other developmentally supportive assessment observations for the medically fragile neonate.
  • Facilitates Individualized Developmental Care approaches as a standard of care in the nursery. Provides ongoing developmental consultation, inservices, and mentoring of staff. Leads the developmental team and facilitates daily medical rounds. 
  • Refers cases to and consults with Social Workers to promote appropriate continued stay or discharge. Identifies patients and families with complex psychosocial issues and refers them to the Social Worker as appropriate.
  • Utilizes hospital, and community resources while caring for the daily needs of the patient. 
  • Discharge Planning: Identifies potential barriers to discharge or transfer and coordinates with multidisciplinary team members resolution of barriers when possible 
  • Refers to and consults with medical staff, hospital staff, family, community care providers, and patients to facilitate coordination of clinical activities, with a seamless transition from one level of care to another. Appropriately delegates within the team.

Qualifications

  • Special Skills
    • Basic computer skills
    • Operates audio/visual equipment including overhead projector, slide projector, and VCR. 
    • Has knowledge of adult learning theory and communicates effectively in writing and speech.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Minimum Requirements
    • Education: Current Arizona state RN license, OT or PT
    • Experience: 2 years background or experience focusing on Developmental Care is required. Assessment of neonatal patients relative to developmental status is required
    • Licensure/Certifications: 
      • Licensure as required for RN, OT or PT
      • NIDCAP reliability is required on hire
      • BLS is required on hire
  • Preferred Requirements
    • Education: Nursing Degree from an Accredited Nursing School
    • Experience: 3 years background or experience focusing on Developmental Care is required.
