  • Performs routine technical and clerical functions. 
  • Performs venipuncture, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; may perform CLIA waived laboratory tests.  
  • Performs specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens, labels tubes and specimen containers, collects specimens and performs simple tests under supervision. 
  • Performs phlebotomist duties as assigned. 
  • May operate simple lab equipment under supervision. 
  • Processes anatomic pathology and cytology specimens. 
  • Obtains blood specimens for all age groups serviced. 
  • Uses, maintains and cleans laboratory equipment and uses protective equipment to protect form exposure to chemical, radiation and infectious hazards. 
  • Must be knowledgeable of emergency procedures. 
  • Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned 

Job Summary 

Performs routine technical and clerical functions. Performs venipuncture, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; may perform CLIA waived laboratory tests. Performs specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens, labels tubes and specimen containers, collects specimens and performs simple tests under supervision. Performs phlebotomist duties as assigned. May operate simple lab equipment under supervision. Assists pathologists as needed. Prepares solutions, labels tubes and specimen containers, collects specimens and performs simple tests under supervision. Processes anatomic pathology and cytology specimens. Obtains blood specimens for all age groups serviced. Uses, maintains and cleans laboratory equipment and uses protective equipment to protect form exposure to chemical, radiation and infectious hazards. Must be knowledgeable of emergency procedures.

    • Operate basic laboratory equipment, computers and medical software. 
    • Accurate data entry into medical software. 
    • Attention to detail to verify relevant data and process specimens ensuring appropriate specimens are handled, packaged and shipped to the designated laboratory according to established protocols and specimen integrity. 
    • Understands the pre-analytical variables that affect laboratory specimens. 
    • Correct application of laboratory medical terminology and measurements. 
    • Organizational, planning, and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks and accomplish work accurately and timely. 
    • Demonstrates problem solving by taking the appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns. 
    • Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high volume setting. 
  • Minimum Requirements: 
    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. 
    • Experience: Ability to complete blood draws independently within six-weeks of hire. 
  • Preferred Requirements: 
    • Experience: 6 months of laboratory experience.
