Registered Dietitian Full Time Days
Joshua Tree, California Hi-Desert Continuing Care CenterPrimary Duties
- Utilizing knowledge of healthcare food, nutrition, and catering trends, oversee the development of department strategic priorities and operational policies/procedures, with a focus on best practices in food quality, efficiency in production, best sanitation, food cost controls, food presentation, etc.
- Collaborate with administrative leadership in defining the strategic and operational plan for department. Communicate plans and continuously evaluate plans.
- Applies knowledge of clinical nutrition, with emphasis on the needs of various levels of acute care patients, to all policy development and decision making for the department.
- Oversees department's performance improvement initiatives in preparation for The Joint Commission, health department inspections, and any other regulatory agency requirements.
- Performs nutritional assessments per nutritional assessment policy and procedures and standards of practice.
- Attends healthcare team meetings regularly.
- Educates patients on long term nutritional care through individual discussions, group classes and community
- speaking engagements. Responsible for developing and implementing nutritional education programs and strategies to achieve a high level of patient satisfaction. Documents patients level of understanding
- Writes modified diets and coordinates diet adaptations with house menus. Approves menus and monitors and approves meal substitutions as needed.
- Serves as an educational resource to foodservice, nursing and medical personnel.
At Hi-Desert Medical Center (HDMC) we've been caring for our community for over 40 years. Our Continuing Care Center (CCC), located on the campus of HDMC, provides specialized care to residents close to their own communities, with spectacular panoramic views of desert landscapes for both residents and their guests
The Continuing Care Center has 120 beds and offers three distinct levels of service in semi-private rooms:
Subacute care: This is the highest level of care available in our long-term care setting. The CCC provides 25 beds dedicated to residents with ventilator and tracheostomy requirements. Clinical staff is specially trained to meet the unique needs of these patients. The CCC is one of the few facilities in Southern California providing this level of care.
Skilled nursing care: We provide long-term skilled nursing care to residents who require assistance with personal and medical needs. Care is provided to our patients who require rehabilitative therapies, wound care or recovery from accidents or invasive procedures.
Long-Term Care: We provide long-term care to residents who require assistance with personal and medical needs.
Position Summary:
Under general direction of Department Director and designee, the Registered Dietitian (RD) is responsible for ensuring clinical expertise for all food services and providing excellent customer service and patient satisfaction. The RD assists in providing guidance and education to staff to help create a positive work culture and cost effective management of all aspects of food services. Responsible for all food service-related activities; including patient care, non-patient care (retail, cafeteria, catering, etc.), quality improvement, sanitation, infection control and all hospital-related activities.
The Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing comprehensive nutrition care and management for residents in a long-term care and skilled nursing facility, including those in the subacute/short-term rehabilitation unit. This position ensures residents receive individualized nutrition plans that promote optimal health, recovery, and quality of life. The Dietitian collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary care team to meet regulatory requirements, enhance clinical outcomes, and support residents’ nutritional well-being through evidence-based practice and compassionate care.

Hours: M-F, 8:00AM -4:30PM
Minimum Education/Certification/Experience:
- Knowledge of foods/nutrition; food preparation; production; supervisory/instructional techniques
- One year experience in dietetics (may consider new grad if staffing allows)
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Master’s Degree
- Registered Dietitian (RD) – Commission on Dietetic Registration
- ServSafe Certification (within 14 day of hire)
