GENERAL DUTIES:

The Vocational Nurse-Licensed performs under the direction of the Registered Nurse in providing for the care of patients to whom he/she is directly assigned. A basic understanding of medical and surgical problems is necessary, in addition to knowledge of appropriate nursing interventions related to the patients the care for. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

  • Participates in chart audit duties as assigned 
  • Proficient in EMR and Batch Charge entry
  • Understands the range of treatment needed as appropriate to the ages of patients served
  • Works in conjunction with and under the supervision of an RN in performing assigned nursing tasks.
  • Administers medications within the scope of practice and nursing policy.
  • Assists wound care and hyperbaric physicians with examinations and treatments.
  • Demonstrates competency in minor treatment and evaluation of wound care and hyperbaric patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development
  • Provides education to patients and families based on their identified needs and physician order.
  • Re-enforces importance of medication compliance.
  • Remove any unsafe condition and report and follow up as necessary to the appropriate personnel
  • Utilizes universal precautions.
  • Assures patients are adequately oriented to the area.
  • Monitors unit activities and encourages staff participation in safety issues.
  • Uses self as a role model to promote health communication and safe work practices.
  • Reports potential crisis situations to the Clinical Coordinator
  • Monitors patients for changes in condition or status and intervenes appropriately in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in report at the beginning of the shift and assumes responsibility for assigned area.
  • Participates in orientation of all new staff as assigned.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement Plan of Unit.
  • Demonstrates guest relations in communication, cooperation and in giving assistance to patients, physicians, co-workers and visitors in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Acts as the patients advocate and assures that patient rights are upheld.
  • Communicates professionally with coworkers and physicians.
  • Asks for assistance and guidance as needed.
  • Implements appropriate interventions based on patient need and unit guidelines.
  • Follows the chain of command in problem resolution.
  • Performs general nursing procedures.
  • Ensures documentation in Cerner is accurate
  • Enters corrections or additions in a timely fashion
  • Follows all infection control regulations and uses standard precautions appropriately.
  • Uses proper body mechanics and safety equipment.  Performs duties in a safe manner.
  • Follow all safety, fire and disaster regulations.  Is knowledgeable about hazardous materials and material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals used in the work area.
  • Works Independently and requests assistance/direction when needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for a clar and orderly work area.
  • Dresses appropriately for work assignment as per dress code.
  • Appropriately and consistently uses the time keeping system and completes corrections in a timely manner.
  • Start’s IV’s and obtains blood samples.
  • Updates care plans as needed.
  • Communicates the need for equipment or supplies
  • Ensures RNA CNA, complete assigned resident care tasks.
  • Participates in resident Care Plan meetings and ensures care plans are appropriately and up to date.
  • Participates in Nutrition/Weight/Wound meetings
  • Completes the “M” section of the MDS
  • Orders specialty beds appropriate to criteria of wounds
  • Measures pressure ulcers weekly, preferably the same day of every week. Issues treatment if necessary, fills out pressure ulcer reports, and distributesd.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current license as an LVN, issued by the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification (maintain current at all times)
  • Minimum two (2) years in an acute care setting.

 

  1.       Preferred:
  • One year wound care experience preferred. Experience in ambulatory care setting desirable. Hyperbaric experience a plus.
