Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Patient Care Services, the Assistant Director, Patient Care Services is a professional registered nurse who is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing care given by a designated healthcare team. In the absence of the Department Director, the Assistant department Director will provide twenty-four hour responsibility for the units standards, staff, leadership, decision-making, fiscal guidelines, and department relationship. The Assistant Department Director fosters a supportive, professional environment of physicians, staff, and patients. The Assistant Department Director is dedicated to Performance Improvement.
Position Accountabilities:
1. Assists Department Director with all activities and functions of the department.
2. Accountable for creating an environment that promotes clinical excellence. Assists Department Director with establishing standards of care for unit. Defines and communicates standards to staff members. Reviews, develops, and revises policies and procedures. Monitors compliance to established standards. Promotes responsibility and accountability for quality and quality outcomes. Uses an ethical decision-making process. Incorporates inter-disciplinary philosophy in devoloping care systems.
3. Assists Department Director with planning for units fiscal needs. Assigns responsibilities to meet budgeted guidelines. Monitors all fiscal aspects to function in the most cost effective manner possible. Shows flexibility to modify goals as needed. Provides input for capital budget or physical plan as needed.
4. Accountable for developing staff. Assists Department Director with interviews and hires to meet budgeted plan. Provides input for in-service and educational needs and provides as needed. Communicates information. Develops unit management team.
5. Assesses quality of nursing care on the units and implements necessary change to promote excellence in practice.
6. Monitors patient satisfaction survey. Suggests plan to improve results and assits with implementation of approved plan
7. Assists Director with evaluations and performance management. Assists in performance improvement by establishing goals with measureable performance outcomes, action plans, and time frames.
8. Demonstrates a proactive approach and commitment to change. Seeks opportunities to improve quality and promote the positive acceptance of change.
9. Serves as a role model by demonstrating initiative, conflict resolution, and positive morale.
10. Demonstrate the ability or organize workload, set priorities, and uses time efficiently to complete work on time and in an organized manner.
11. Accountable for leadership. Motivates staff by sharing ideas and values. Fosters self esteem. Delegates responsibilites appropriately. Trains staff to function independently. Remains open to suggestions and feedback. Follows up to see that plans are implemented. Provides leadership in redesign of health care systems. Promotes collaboration of management in Performance Improvement. Works with other professionals to strenthen practice and patient care.
12. Accountable for judgment and decision-making. Analyzes data, considers options, develops plan of action, takes action as needed, evaluates response and uses timing to be effective. Sets short and long-range goals and objectives.
13.Accountable for continuous quality improvement. Provides an environment for Performance Improvement. Designs, develops, implements, evaluates, revises systems to monitor and improve care outcomes. Integrate the quality improvement process within the practice environment. Reduces risks to patient or organization through effective management strategies. Understands and manages regulatory and license requirements.
14. Accountable for overseeing the intake department with the focus on all staff and operational issues, timely review of referrals, maintaining contacts with the referral sources including Stanislaus County, working directly with emergency department to ensure patient throughput in a timely manner.
15. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Position Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, Nursing Preferred
Minimum Experience/Skills: One to two years management experience
License/Certificates/Credentials: Current Registered Nursing license for the state of California.
Physical Demands: Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking, Lifts, positions, pushes up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and mobility.
Vision Requirements: Ability to adjust vision sufficiently to perform position accountabilities.
Working Conditions: Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Exposure to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, illness). Emergency and crisis situations. Subject to irregular hours. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Pay Range: $54.84 - $81.75 Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience.
