Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, this position will be providing diagnosis, prognosis, counseling, and psychotherapeutic intervention. The Inpatient Clinician performs required functions also referred to as Social Worker duties in a Psychiatric facility. Under direction, the Inpatient Clinician I provides clinical guidance to professional and technical personnel and provides education and consultation services to staff, community agencies and the public.
ResponsibilitiesPosition Accountabilities
1. Works collaboratively with a wide range of disciplines in treatment planning.
2. Performs Intake/Bio-Psycho-Social Assessments. Completes applicable treatment plan section.
3. Prepares and maintains complex treatment and progress reports on assigned cases.
4. Participates in matters relating to diagnosis, treatment, discharge and follow-up planning once the patient is admitted.
5. Meets with individuals and groups to assist them in identifying strengths and barriers and developing realistic plans to address them.
6. Performs psychiatric social work and psychotherapy of a complex nature with clients and groups.
7. Prepares clear concise case work records and make recommendations on the basis of such information, organize and manage a caseload and work with a bureaucratic system.
8. Prioritizes the problems of mentally disordered persons and determine their needs.
9. Decides appropriate treatment focus and methods without clinical supervision. Works with a team to integrate various clinical approaches into a treatment program.
10. Recognizes a potential crisis, handles stress and bizarre behavior and delivers crisis intervention services.
11. Participates in team intervention.
12. Conducts therapeutic groups and documents client participation and progress.
13. Secures the cooperation of relatives in treatment programs.
14. Advises clients on available community resources. Makes referrals and other arrangements as assigned.
15. Acts in a liaison and advocate capacity between the client, persons or agencies involved. Arranges patient conferences as appropriate and documents decisions and outcomes.
16. Participates in training programs conducted for the benefit of the community. Acts as a consultant for other community agencies.
17. Accountable for the coordination in patient’s discharge including distributing documents to necessary departments.
18. Completes incident reports and ensures the physician and management are fully aware of any incidents occurring during their shift.
19. Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- Graduate from an accredited two (2) year Graduate School of Social Work from an accredited university. Masters or Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology may be substituted for the above educational requirement.
Minimum Experience/Skills:
- Two (2) years of experience in a Mental Health setting. Knowledge of principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, clinical case management, and various treatment modalities. Knowledge of biological, behavioral and environmental aspects of emotional disturbances, mental disability, retardation and substance abuse. Knowledge of culturally proficient practices with diverse caseload. Knowledge of scope and activities of the public and private health and welfare agencies and other available resources. Knowledge of principles and techniques of mental health education, prevention, and crisis intervention within the community.
Physical Demands:
Frequent sitting/standing/walking. Lift/position up to 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 50 lbs of force. Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, manual dexterity and mobility, touch, auditory and visual perception and acuity, adequate vocal pitch and volume, ability to move quickly.
Vision Requirements:
- Sufficient perceptive acuity (vision and hearing) to perform all the related duties of the position
Working Conditions:
- Regularly exposed to the risk of contagious and blood borne diseases, subject to varying and unpredictable situations, exposure to unpleasant elements (accidents, trauma, illness and death), emergency and crisis situations, subject to irregular hours, occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries, occasional exposure to radiation hazards, radioactive substances and biohazard material.
