POSITION SUMMARY:
An occupational therapist shall plan, direct and perform occupational therapy evaluations and care plans individualized to meet the need of each patient. Care plans shall be developed that promote restoration of function, coping skills for cognitive impairments, improvement in muscle strength, increase of endurance, education of the patient and their families about rehabilitation principles, the prevention of deformities through exercise and positioning programs and/or interventions for dysfunction in oral function and swallowing. Responsibilities include the supervision of Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians, occupational therapy and occupational therapist assistant students, and volunteers. Occupational therapists also participate in scheduling of patient treatments, multidisciplinary care planning and patient education, and team support of other areas of service besides their assigned home department.
Education:
Minimum Education: Graduate of approved Occupational Therapy Program
Experience:
Minimum Experience: 2 years with adults and children preferred
Certifications:
Required Certification: BCLS within 3 months of date of hire
Required Licensure: Texas Occupational Therapy License or temporary license is adequate with permanent license obtained by 6 months after date of hire
