Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and Level I Trauma Center with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department.  Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.

Position Summary;

The Director of Graduate Medical Education (GME) provides strategic and operational leadership for the GME department at the hospital level. This role is responsible for the overall management of graduate medical education programs, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and maintaining the highest level of academic and administrative integrity. The Director will oversee physician recruitment, budgeting, contracting, and CMS reporting, and will lead a team of GME professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the daily operations of the GME department to support the academic mission of the hospital and ensure compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards.
  • Provides leadership and management to direct reports within the GME department, including performance evaluations, hiring, disciplinary actions, and professional development.
  • Partners with the National Director to align hospital-based GME initiatives with national strategies and goals.
  • Oversees and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of CMS reporting related to GME funding and reimbursement.
  • Manages GME program budgets, forecasts, and revenue cycles; collaborates with Finance to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
  • Leads GME recruitment processes for residency and fellowship programs in coordination with Program Directors and other stakeholders.
  • Administers physician contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with institutional goals.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of ACGME, GME, and continuing medical education guidelines and ensures institutional adherence.
  • Serves as a liaison between the hospital, academic affiliates, and regulatory agencies to support accreditation and program development.
  • Drives continuous quality improvement and supports the development of new GME programs as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Education, Business, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree (MHA, MBA, MPH, or equivalent).

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of 5 years in leadership roles, with at least 3 years of progressive experience specifically in Graduate Medical Education.
  • Preferred: Experience managing multiple residency or fellowship programs within an ACGME-accredited institution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of ACGME requirements and CMS regulations related to GME funding.
  • Proven ability to manage teams and lead through influence and collaboration.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in GME systems, budgeting, and project management.

Pay Range: $79.39 - $127.02 **Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience ***Calculated based on a full time position
