The Market Mobility Tech Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and sustaining high-quality training and education for Mobility Technicians and frontline clinical staff who support patient mobility throughout hospital in the geographic market. This role strengthens the hospital’s early mobility and safe patient-handling programs by ensuring staff are fully competent in patient transfers, repositioning, ambulation, lift equipment use, and therapeutic mobility techniques.
Serving as a clinical educator, coach, and subject-matter expert, the Mobility Tech Trainer partners closely with the mobility techs, rehabilitation services, nursing, leadership teams, and other ancillary departments to reinforce best practices, improve staff proficiency, and promote safe and effective patient movement. This position plays a direct role in reducing patient complications, preventing staff injury, and improving mobility outcomes across the organization.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Training & Competency Development
- Develop and deliver education through onboarding, skills labs, and ongoing competency validation for Mobility Technicians, nursing staff, and other team members involved in patient mobility.
- Create competency checklists, training modules, and annual competency validation processes aligned with ergonomic, mobility, and safe patient-handling standards.
- Provide hands-on coaching in transfers, lifts, ambulation assistance, gait cueing, balance support, postural control, and progressive mobility techniques.
- Serve as the lead trainer on all lift equipment, mobility aids, and assistive devices; ensure consistent, safe, and correct use across units.
- Evaluate staff performance during real-time mobility activities, offering corrective guidance, skill reinforcement, and individualized feedback.
Program Leadership & Clinical Support
- Partner with therapy and nursing to align training with ergonomic principles, mobility goals, care plans, and hospital early-mobility protocols.
- Round on units to observe mobility practices, identify training gaps, and support complex mobility cases when needed.
- Collaborate with interprofessional teams to prevent falls, pressure injuries, and musculoskeletal strain—for both patients and staff.
- Monitor adherence to lift-equipment utilization expectations and safe patient-handling policies.
- Contribute to development and refinement of early mobility programs, pathways, and performance benchmarks.
Quality, Documentation & Data
- Assist in collecting and analyzing data related to mobility participation, lift utilization, and safety outcomes.
- Use findings to adjust training content, identify trends, and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure all Mobility Technicians are competent in proper EMR documentation of mobility activities and patient response.
- Maintain accurate training records, competency files, and compliance logs.
Equipment Oversight & Education
- Serve as the subject-matter expert on mobility equipment operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety checks.
- Train staff on proper equipment cleaning, storage, and inventory practices.
- Coordinate with vendors as needed for new equipment training or updates.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferred.
- Safe Patient Handling Professional (SPHP) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Current BLS certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
- 3+ years of experience as a Mobility Technician, Rehab Aide, CNA, ,Rehab Tech or similar patient-mobility support role.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience providing staff education, clinical instruction, precepting, mentoring, or competency validation in a healthcare setting.
- Strong understanding of body mechanics, functional mobility, gait training principles, and safe transfer techniques.
- Experience working in an acute care hospital environment preferred; medical-surgical, critical care, orthopedic, rehabilitation, or progressive care experience highly desirable.
- Ability to provide calm, clear direction in fast-paced or high-risk mobility situations.
- Proficiency with lift equipment, mobility devices, and hospital mobility protocols.
