Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and Level I Trauma Center with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
GENERAL DUTIES:
The Bariatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) manages patients on their specialty service/practice under the direction and indirect supervision of their collaborating physician, who may or may not be the service line Medical Director. This role is a leadership position and the individual is responsible for effective time management, resource utilization, cost effective delivery of patient care and demonstration of positive role modeling. Other duties and skills include, but are not limited to:
Telephone skills - must demonstrate hospital telephone etiquette by answering phones promptly, courteously and by identifying department and staff.
Policy/procedures - is aware of and follows all hospital and department policies and procedures.
Teamwork — promotes positive co-worker relationships through teamwork and cooperation. Understands and supports the needs of individuals in other departments and promotes conflict resolution. Shares information, work knowledge and experience with co-workers, physicians, and students in a nonthreatening manner. Offers assistance and promptly responds to requests. Acts as a role model demonstrating the behaviors expected of staff relative to attendance, work quality productivity, and patient care.
Productivity — maintains high productivity and performs efficiently, regardless of whether the work volume is high or low. Appropriately prioritizes work activities. Responds to difficult situations with self-control and a positive attitude. Makes decisions independently and knows when to ask for assistance. Exercises good judgment and arrives at sound decisions.
Clinical skills — Maintains clinical expertise to provide optimal patient care and act as resource to the staff. Demonstrates the necessary knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs. Collect database information by performing a physical assessment. Attend rounds with the physician as needed and act as a patient advocate. Promote health by providing preventive health education and intervention appropriate to patient's age and medical/surgical problem and/or risk.
Personnel -- Interviews and hires applicants. Cultivates an atmosphere that promotes recruitment, retention, and employee appreciation. Promotes good employee relations. Establishes and maintains a climate in which personnel can attain their maximum potential in performance. Prepares and reviews personnel performance evaluations and initiates personnel actions such as merit increases, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and termination.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Directs the activities and functions of the Bariatrics Program. Responsible for direction and coordination of the personnel involved in the provision of nursing services within the department. Collaborates with physician for the implementation of policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for the department to facilitate optimal nursing care. Generic duties include:
- Provide telephone advice and referrals to patients.
- Collaborate with Medical Director to complete inpatient Bariatric consults
- Independently performs initial evaluations and follow-up visits for weight loss management and medical nutritional therapy
- Coordinate with Bariatric Dietician to provide pre and post-operative Bariatric Surgery education
- Complete DRMC and clinic records, including but not limited to progress notes, orders, radiograph requests, and study requests. Dictate records when appropriate.
- Perform extended role procedures as defined in standardized protocols and standardized procedures.
- Act as a resource for staff and other hospital personnel. Serves as an expert consultant in Bariatrics.
- Participates in ongoing educational events.
- Participate in specialty specific research grants and studies.
- Fulfills Program Director role and performs all duties required for regulatory and accreditation status. Includes but is not limited to:
- Assist with data collection
- Participate in and promote quality improvement projects
- Facilitate monthly patient support groups
- Coordinate with the Medical Director to provide informational seminars
- Ensure annual staff education requirements for Bariatric services are met
- Oversee and manage accreditation survey preparations, requirements, and site visits
- Maintains current professional licenses and/or certifications as and when required by state, regulatory agency, or hospital mandate
Qualifications
Required:
- Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nursi
- Current California RN License and Nurse Practitioner Certificate
- Appropriate Board Certification
- Current California Furnishing License and DEA umber
- Current American Heart Association BLS reification (maintain current at all times)
- Collaborative Agreement with Physician
- Demonstrated clinical competence and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to present self in positive and professional manner
Preferred:
- Two years of clinical experience as a nurse practitioner

Pay Range: $62.20 - $99.52 hourly **Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
