Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative , patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.


Position Overview:
The RN Nursing Manager is responsible for the administration and supervision of nursing personnel in the Surgical Services Department for cost centers 7021 (OR), 7040 (Anesthesia), and 7147 (Endoscopy); and is accountable to the Director of Surgical Services, for coordination of all nursing care given and all related supporting services of these units and personnel.. The main function is that of leadership and promotion of cooperative staff effort. In the absence of the Director of Surgical Services, the Nursing Manager assumes this responsibility and accountability.

The RN Nursing Manager is responsible for the location and completion of assigned functions in the daily operation of the Surgical Services Department. She/He interprets hospital and departmental philosophy, objectives, policy and procedures. Access to all Patient Health Information for treatment purposes only.

Department Specific Duties:
•Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
•Manage the surgical/perioperative areas both operationally and fiscally during tour of duty.
•Act as a clinical resource for perioperative personnel using current literature and guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
•Assist perioperative personnel in the evaluation of current practice through quality and performance improvement activities.
•Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders.
•Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within the surgical area.
•Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
•Use effective conflict resolution techniques.
•Collect and analyze data applicable to perioperative services to facilitate collaboration and negotiation with stakeholders.
•Participate in interviews for perioperative personnel selection.
•Assist in evaluating perioperative personnel performance.
•Monitor that necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
•Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to surgical team.
•Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization.
•Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
•Develop staff work and call schedule in collaboration with staff
•Conducts evaluations for new staff at the completion of the probationary period.
•Participates in the disciplinary process as needed.
•Monitors staff compliance with policy and procedures
•Provides counseling and disciplinary measures to personnel
•Monitors the department environmental daily and assures surveillance of safety, regulatory and infection prevention
•Assures staff knowledge of regulatory requirements including fire and disaster safety
•Reviews electrical safety and assures all equipment is maintained and inspected
•Reports environmental problems to appropriate support departments
•Encourages and atmosphere of responsiveness to physician needs and requests
•Demonstrates commitment to continually improving service scores and core measures
•Provides assistance to surgeons through case readiness and adequately prepared team members
•Attends leadership meetings and serves on hospital/departmental committees
•Monitors budget compliance
•Provides input into the preparation of the budget
•Demonstrates cost reduction strategies
•Assists with departmental statistical analysis

Qualifications - External

•Current Registered Nurse/RN licensure in the State of California
•Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (maintain current at all times)
•CNOR Preferred
•Bachelor’s Degree, MSN Preferred
•3 years clinical experience in Surgical Services
•2 years progressive management experience in surgical services area(s)
•Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
•Demonstrates knowledge of current nursing theory and practice
•Compassionate, non-judgmental patient caregiver and advocate
•Must be able to tolerate physically and mentally demanding work

Pay Range: $56.42 - $90.28

Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
