Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and Level I Trauma Center with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department.  Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.

General Duties:

Provides managerial direction and support for the Patient Access/Admitting department through the utilization of staff and other resources, and the reviewing of reports. Monitors admissions ensuring appropriate admission facilitating optimum cash flow and low A/R days within the facility through timely, accurate, persistent and thorough admission and collection practices.

Department Specific Duties:

Coordinate daily operations and supervise staff to ensure timely billing and follow-up, posting and collections to enhance and improve the financial objectives of Patient Access and Patient Financial Services.

Staff accuracy rate and POS collections are monitored and tracked daily/monthly.

Assists Manager/Director with determining staffing requirements; adjusts staffing schedules according to volumes/workload.

Assists Manager with monitoring and maintenance of monthly staffing schedules. Ensures schedules are completed and posted two weeks prior to the beginning of each month.

Adjusts staffing schedules according to workload.

Assists in the hiring and supervision of Admitting Department staff.

Interviews all potential applicants for positions in the department and make recommendations to manager.

Assists with training and monitoring of all new staff members. Performs weekly follow-up during the 90-day probationary period as well as follow-up with recommendations.

Orients new employees to the Admitting Department.

Provides initial and ongoing training for all Admitting Department employees. Ensures assigned personnel remain current on all .eDU and/or regional training course requirements. Tracks and maintains compliance per individual employees.

Reviews and monitors employee work quality and productivity.

Provides feedback to staff on performance.

Communicates updates of information to staff and other departments in a timely manner.

Ensures that 95% of all patients scheduled for outpatient procedures and surgical events are pre-admitted, and pre-certifications have been obtained, and insurance verified prior to patient arrival.

Collaborates with co-workers, and team members to identify opportunities for improvement and develop plans for corrections or solutions.

Maintains a professional atmosphere in the Admitting Department.

All required reports are completed daily (i.e. ICE Error, Pre-Admission, etc., ).

Monthly meetings and in-services are held and minutes completed.

Participates and is an active team member at all staff meetings.

Safety and Quality in-services are performed and minutes completed.          

Ensures staff have been cross-trained and able to work in all areas of the department.          

All staff personnel files are current.

Employee issues are handled in a timely manner and documented according to hospital policies and guidelines.

Employee 90-day and yearly evaluations are completed timely and according to hospital guidelines.

Document disciplinary actions taken according to current hospital policy and procedure.

Monitor staff attendance, tardiness and vacation time monthly and initiate disciplinary action if needed.

Accept personal accountability to meet the needs of our customers.

Lead by example by approaching relationships/situations in a manner which avoids antagonism and reduces conflict.

Demonstrates respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and a genuine willingness to prevent or resolve inter-personal conflicts.

Ensure the privacy and dignity of our customers and gives compassionate, quality care.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

Required:
 College courses relating to finance. Two years hospital registration, admissions, collections and/or follow-up.  Documented knowledge of hospital admission and/or business office operations

Preferred:    
Bachelor’s degree in related fields. Five years experience in hospital business office, admission supervision/management. Experience in medical records.  Bilingual – English/Spanish.

Pay Range: $34.50 - $42.35 **Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience ***Calculated based on a full time position
