The nursing transport aide reports to the One Call Center for daily clinical supervision and receives assignments from the One Call Center/Transport Dispatcher. The nursing transport aide provides safe, efficient, and timely transfers and discharges of patients from nursing units, and ensures equipment is located in the appropriate areas. The nursing transport aide will remain immediately available via the SpectraLink phone system or communication device that has been implemented, and maintains a high level of customer service as detailed in the customer service plan. Access to demographic information and limited patient health information related to job function.
Responsibilities
- Acknowledges and communicates any malfunction of equipment to One Call Center/Transport Dispatcher/Manager/Supervisor
- All Transport personnel will adhere to hospital guidelines of grooming and general appearance
- All Transport personnel will wear required uniform and clean athletic shoes
- Cleans and prepares gurneys, wheel chairs, oxygen tanks or other medical equipment after patient transfers/discharge (or as needed) in a timely manner
- Communicates with patient / family members, staff, physicians and other departments where patient is being transported. Any lengthy delays are reported back to the department and dispatcher
- Ensures completion/adherence of ticket to ride
- Expedites transports and checks in with the One Call Center/Transport Coordinator, with a communication device, when transport duty is completed
- Follows directions and performs all tasks within scope of practice
- Communicates, identifies and transports any malfunctioning or unsafe equipment to the appropriate area for repair
- Knows location, proper use and safety check procedures of equipment and follows protocol when problems are discovered
- Maintains an exemplary attendance record
- Trains new employees, students and volunteers in transport aide duties
- Transport personnel will interact with each patient, guest and staff member utilizing current hospital service method
- Transporters will ensure modesty of patients by covering them with a blanket or sheet during transport
- Transports patients in a safe, courteous and efficient manner
- Understands and utilizes appropriate equipment in the transport of patients
- When not transporting patients, keeps busy with stocking and cleaning duties
- Other duties as assigned per One Call Center or Manager/Director
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Excellent communication skills – phone etiquette, written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to present self in positive and professional manner
- Current American Heart Association-Basic Life Support Certification
