Job Summary

Job Type: Full Time
Hours: 7:00am - 5:30pm
Schedule: 4 (10) hour shifts per two week pay period. Some weekends required.
The pulmonary function respiratory therapist will provide pulmonary diagnostic testing for inpatient and outpatient services under the supervision of the department director and medical director. He/she will assist with the duties necessary to support a functional and productive department. The pulmonary function respiratory therapist shall complete established competencies within designated periods, and maintain all applicable licensures and certifications necessary to provide services in the pulmonary function laboratory.
Responsibilities
1. Performs pulmonary function diagnostic services; including but not limited to: the administration
Of pharmacological agents, pulmonary diagnostics (e.g. point of care testing), clinical documentation and reporting, and obtaining patient samples for laboratory analysis.
2. Practices in accordance with regulatory standards and maintains compliance with facility policies and procedures.
3. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, physicians, and other care providers.
4. Acts as a resource/consultant for other respiratory care practitioners and affiliated health care providers on aspects of patient care interventions.
5. Maintain and calibrate various PFT equipment according to department policy and manufacture recommendation.
6. Reports unusual patient conditions/reactions when identified to an immediate supervisor, including completion of a facility electronic occurrence report as appropriate.
7. Prepares and maintains electronic documentation and billing of all work/services rendered.
8. Responsible for outpatient scheduling, including physician orders and authorization verification, and patient appointment reminder calls.
9. Helps maintain a safe and organized environment.
10. Follows cleaning, disinfection and infection control policies.
11. Accurately identifies and addresses patient population specific needs and safety considerations.
12. Participates in performance improvement activities, including department and facility-based quality measures.
13. Assists with orientation, education, and training of department staff and students as appropriate.
14. Assists with bronchoscopy procedures.
15. May be required to assist with inpatient care under the direction of the department leadership.
Qualifications
Required:
1. Current Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in State of California
2. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
3. Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT).
· Or must be obtained within one year of employment for this position.
4. Experience in pulmonary function testing.
5. Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS Certification
*All licensure and certifications must be maintained and current at all times.
Preferred:
1. Graduate of a 2-4 year AMA therapist program, or equivalent.
2. Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT).
3. Experience with bronchoscopy assistance and pulmonary rehabilitation.
4. Fluent in Spanish.
