Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and Level I Trauma Center with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.

GENERAL DUTIES:

The Manager of Pulmonary Services provides focused and integrated leadership to the department of Pulmonary Services; while facilitating the maintenance of management structures and work environments, which successfully accomplish the delivery of safe, quality, and cost-effective respiratory care. He/she uses critical thinking skills and exercises independent decision-making, as needed for the provision of safe and rational pulmonary services.

Supervises and directs the activities of the Respiratory Care Department under the direction of the Director of Pulmonary services. Department oversight includes (but is not necessarily limited to): general respiratory care services, pulmonary function laboratory/diagnostics and bronchoscopy support, as well as facility-based pulmonary rehabilitation programs. The Manager is involved in the development, maintenance, and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and protocols directed at the provision of pulmonary services. In concert with the Director of Pulmonary Services, he/she helps ensure compliance with both regulatory and facility directives, oversees day to day operations, further ensuring alignment with applicable quality metrics.

Schedule: Monday thru Friday. Schedule adjusted per department need.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

  • Assist with managing annual department budgets and targeted initiatives, directs daily operations, and oversees staff competency/training to help ensure patient care needs are met.
  • Manages daily operations of assigned departments; supervises staff; assists in selection of personnel for hire and promotion; takes appropriate actions regarding counseling, disciplinary actions, demotion and termination; assists in evaluating staff performance; performs quality control on all respiratory equipment; assists in training/orientation of students or new employees
  • Practices in accordance with regulatory standards and maintains compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, physicians, and other care providers.
  • Acts as a resource/consultant for other respiratory care practitioners and affiliated health care practitioners regarding pulmonary aspects of patient care interventions. 
  • Helps plan, develop, and maintain policies and procedures for programs that optimize the ability of respiratory therapists to positively impact patient outcomes, and prevent patient harm.
  • Facilitates quality initiatives that optimize care, establish evidence based treatment protocols, including efforts to continually improve pulmonary-related outcomes.
  • Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period.
  • Manages pulmonary supply chain targets, strategic goals, staffing models and scheduling, compliance adherence, as well as general operational management needs.
  • Actively leads and participates in performance improvement activities; including department and facility-based quality and safety measures, data and trend analysis, safety performance, score card metrics, etc.
  • Manages personnel, ensuring facility and regulatory compliance for all staff, assists with team engagement and development, as well as progressive corrective action counseling when needed.
  • Manages blood gas laboratory’s and CAP accreditation.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited respiratory care program/ associate in respiratory care or health science.
  • Current Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in State of California.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) w/ credentials awarded by the National Board for Respiratory Care (or grandfathered equivalent). 
  • Licensure must be maintained and current at all times
  • Minimum Five (5) years respiratory care and two (2) years management experience. 
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS (to be maintained current at all times)
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Work, Power Point).

 

  1.       Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s or Masters in Health Science/ Health Management.
  • Five (5) years in management in acute care hospital..
  • Membership of a professional organization (i.e. ARRC, NBRC, etc.).

Pay Range: $47.33 - $73.34 **Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience ***Calculated based on a full time position
