Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level I trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
GENERAL DUTIES:
The Unit Secretary (Health Unit Coordinator) is responsible for maintaining supplies and equipment, performing non-clinical nursing tasks, clerical and receptionist duties for a nursing unit. Access to demographic information and limited Patient Health Information related to job function.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Obtains information and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development.
- Responds to physician offices to meet patient scheduling needs for the healthy beginnings Center.
- Maintains daily schedule accurately.
- Provides admitting representative with next day’s appointment schedule by 10AM.
- Maintains chart supplies.
- Prepares chart prior to patients scheduled appointment time.
- Files lab reports and maintains charts accurately.
- Enters all patient charges into the Cerner System daily.
- Audits charges for completeness and accuracy.
- Promotes the image of the healthy beginnings center with positive communication with referring physician offices.
Qualifications
Required:
Spanish Speaking preferred
- High School Diploma or GED
- Able to understand complex written and oral instructions.
- Ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
- Comprehensive general clerical skills required.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written (legibly) communication skills.
- Demands require working in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions and remaining calm.
- Must possess excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and organize work load independently.
- Must demonstrate teamwork in a pleasant manner.
Preferred:
- Health Unit Coordinator certification
- American Heart Association BLS certification
- Prior unit secretary training or health care experience preferred

Pay Range: $23.00 - $23.23 hourly **Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
