Job Summary

Medical Lab Technician is responsible for processing patient specimens and performing medical laboratory testing under the direction of the Lab Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.

  • Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.

  • Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.

  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with all regulatory agencies including CLIA/COLA, OSHA, and others.

  • Ensure quality control processes are completed and documented correctly per regulatory authority guidance. Manage CLIA-waived and CLIA non-waived Testing and Controls for the lab.

  • Process specimens and perform basic and CLIA-waived and non-CLIA waived testing ordered by a physician or other licensed practitioner

  • May Serve as a phlebotomist for the clinical, which requires special certification and entails drawing blood by skin punctures and venipuncture to provide samples for clinical analysis and testing. Process and label in-coming and out-going specimens

  • Prepare laboratory samples for outside labs, including the necessary paperwork. Support laboratory administrative and clerical functions, included but not limited patient recordkeeping and preparing and processing testing paperwork

  • Maintains laboratory materials and equipment and inventory. Ensure applicable equipment is operating at required temperatures and humidity

  • May also perform some limited tests for which the incumbent has specific training and provide support to other clinical departments.Assist laboratory manager with other function and projects as directed in order to meet the laboratory requirements.

Qualifications

Education: Preferred- Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program

Certification: Required - Medical Lab Technician certification as well as State Certification when applicable (ASCP,AMT, or equivalent) within one year of hire.

Experience: Must have a minimum of one year of experience working in a clinic lab setting.
