Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent
PREFERRED EDUCATION: CNA
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Experience in mental health field or equivalent education/academic preparation required. 
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 1 year acute hospital experience with geriatric patients 
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: NA
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: 
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): 

  • Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention obtained within 60 days of date of hire or transfer date into unit

Description

Summary

Under close supervision of a licensed nurse, assists nursing to improve and maintain the emotional and physical health of the psychiatric patient(s). Performs nursing care activities under the supervision and/or direction of the Director, Clinical Manager, Coordinator, Charge Nurse or Staff Nurse. Participates in the milieu therapy program under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
