Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Completion of a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college/university or foreign equivalent
PREFERRED EDUCATION: N/A
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: None required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 1 to 2 years in a clinical setting
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Registration or Registration eligible with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics. Must successfully complete registration examination within six (6) months from date of hire. Possession of current Texas State Licensure or Provisional Licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Dietitians; if newly registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration must obtain Texas State Licensure within 90 days from registration.
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): NA
General Functions: Performs the functions of a specialized clinical nutrition service Assesses nutritional status of the patient based on information gathered from the medical record, patient, family and other health care team members Identifies and provides for teaching needs of patients and family utilizing appropriate educational material and arranging for the most suitable environment possible Performs nutrient intake analysis Performs nutrition screening and assesses patients identified as high nutrition risks Communicates well with medical, nursing, and other health care team members through patient careconferences, charting and individual consultations Adheres to departmental and hospital policies and procedures Participates in developing, implementing and monitoring quality improvement activities Participates in developing policies and procedures related to providing nutrition care and patient tray services Assigns appropriate nutrition care tasks to the dietetic technicians Acts as a preceptor for dietetic interns and dietetic technician students when required Relieves employees in the diet office as assigned Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively Maintains safe environment Addresses patient population-specific needs Participates in Performance Improvement activities

POSITION SUMMARY
Performs the functions of a specialized clinical nutrition service, such as nutrition assessment, nutrition education, nutrient intake analysis and patient screening to provide quality nutrition care to patients and families. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
