Job Summary
The Medical Assistant serves as the initial contact for patients and physicians. This position assists with escorting patients, preparing patients for exams and procedures and aids as needed. Handles front office duties and implements, organizes and maintains patients’ charts. Performs various tasks including phlebotomy, vital signs, EKG and order entry in addition to cleaning exam rooms, equipment and storage areas. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned. Utilizes a defined skill set consistent with the basic educational program, certification, and relevant work experience to deliver direct care to the patient in the outpatient clinical setting.
Responsibilities
- Prepares patient, room and supplies for exams, tests, and treatments
- Performs direct patient care procedures as directed by RN/designee
- Stocks and orders supplies for routine and special needs
- Assists in maintaining the medical record and documents patient care in the Medical Record
- Schedules patients as needed
- Enters charges as needed
- Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
- Maintains safe environment
- Addresses patient population-specific needs
- Participates in performance improvement actvities
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Required: High school diploma or GED
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 1 year of health care related experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience. Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Must be currently licensed, certified or registered to practice profession as required by law, regulation in state of practice or policy.
REQUIRED COURSE(S) COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): AHA BLS, Certified Medical Assistant and must maintain active certification in both.
