POSITION SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients ranging in age from ne
competencies following established standards and practices. Supports the mission statement, policies and procedures of the Baptist
Health System. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as
assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited school of nursing
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: None
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Completion of peri-anesthesia or critical care internship/training course
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse or
currently eligible for state board certification.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:
Surgery - CNOR Board eligible/certified
Post Anesthesia-CPAN Board eligible/certified
GI Lab SGNA Board eligible/certified
REQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR):
BLS - required for all areas-Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training or the Military
Training Network
ACLS required for all areas in Surgery Services and must obtain within 6 months of date of hire or transfer into
unit
PALS- required for Post Anesthesia and must obtain within 6 months of date of hire or transfer into unit
Department Functions:
Assesses, initiates and documents patient care based on initial assessment and reassessment through
the continuum of care
Identifies need for education of patient, family and/or significant other and provides education and
discharge planning through individualized instruction, the use of written materials and/or other
available resources.
Assigns nursing care to licensed staff and delegates nursing care to unlicensed staff and coordinates
flow of work
Coordinates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in the planning and management
of patient care
Maintains and promotes professional standards and development by participating in inservices,
committees, and staff meetings
Manages patient hand-offs internally and between departments; utilizes the standardized process and
tools to accomplish efficient hand-offs.
Provides every patient the defined standard of care (ie; core measures, SCIP, Universal Protocols)
Facilitates patient throughput
Serves as a role model for compassionate care and service excellence and commits to Studer
Recognizes changing patient condition and utilizes unit resources, chain of command and Rapid
Response Team (RRT) in a timely and appropriate manner.
Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
Maintains safe environment
Addresses patient population-specific needs
Participates in Performance Improvement activities
