Job Summary
Responsible for the administration, interpretation, and evaluation of tests and measurements. Plans and modifies treatment programs. Assists Rehab Manager with coordination of PT, OT, and SLP operations, including performing treatments within the professional’s respective Practice Act, as prescribed by a referring physician. Maintains performance improvement activities and participates in CQI (continuous quality improvement) activities. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols. Completes established competencies for the position within designated
introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
General Management:
Supports established goals and objectives that support overall strategic plans of the facility/Baptist Health System
Monitors the annual department operating and capital budgets
Supervises daily operations of assigned department/s
Supervises performance of staff
Demonstrates objectivity in decision making, utilizing facts to support decisions
Supports the mission statement, policies and procedures of the Baptist Health System
Participates in eliminating boundaries to achieve integrated, efficient and quality service
Achieves ongoing compliance with all regulatory agencies
Serves as a resource to employees and customers as demonstrated by visibility and knowledge of issues
Demonstrates flexibility in response to change
Anticipates and responds to problems and risks
Communicates effectively with all levels in the organization and with inter/external customers
People Management:
Assists in selection of personnel for hire and promotion; takes appropriate actions regarding counseling, disciplinary actions, demotion and termination
Supervises, supports and coaches direct reports
Responds proactively to employee needs and concerns
Assists with development of “experts” and “expertise” throughout the department and seeks employee input
Facilitates consensus among divergent groups
Minimizes staff turnover
Conveys employees’ strengths and accomplishments
Assists in evaluating assigned staff performance and competency, providing direct feedback
Supports competency plans
Department/Business Unit Management:
Interprets physician orders and requests interpretation as necessary
Administers and interprets tests and measurements of patients
Reviews patient chart and progress prior to treatment and modifies the treatment plan accordingly, providing guidance as necessary
Develops realistic functional goals based on patient and/or family expectations
Instructs and involves patient, family, social worker, nursing staff and discharge planner in patient’s progress and discharge plans, participating in appropriate meetings.
Uses appropriate modalities and procedures correctly demonstrating knowledge of indications and contra-indications
Assists with planning and implementation of training for non-professional personnel
Assures appropriate equipment performance prior to each use
Organizes and or assists with schedule of staff to reflect patient priorities, needs of other staff, and the department needs and responsibilities
Assists with and/or provides orientation of students and employees to the Physical Rehabilitation Department
Provides in-service to staff and assists with coordination of in-service education
Provides clinical education for PT students and, after certified as a Clinical Instructor, PT students
Participates in three professional development activities
Informs Director and/or assures timely reporting and appropriate action for incidents, accidents, equipment failure or unusual staff, physician or patient problems immediately.
Utilizes supportive personnel appropriately and supervised administration of treatment plans
Maintains a working knowledge of routine clerical procedures
Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
Maintains safe environment
Addresses patient population –specific needs
Participates in Performance Improvement activities
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree in Physical or Occupational Therapy or related field. Master Degree in Speech Language Pathology
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Physical or Occupational Therapy
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: NA
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Prefer 3 years as clinician in a comparable facility. Prefer 2 years supervisory experienced and/or demonstrated proficiency in those skills needed for supervisory functions.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State license
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Clinical Instructor Certification as applicable
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
