Job Summary
PRN WEEKEND DAYS
The Speech Therapist is responsible for the administration, interpretation and evaluation of tests and measurements. The SLP plans and modifies treatment programs for adult patients with clinical competency, as applicable. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
General Functions:
- Interprets physician orders and requests interpretation as necessary
- Administers and interprets tests and measurements of patients
- Reviews patient chart and progress prior to treatment and modifies the treatment plan accordingly
- Develops realistic functional goals based on patient and/or family expectations
- Instructs and involves patient, family, social worker, nursing staff and discharge planner in patient’s progress and discharge plans, participating in appropriate meetings.
- Maintains documentation on all treatments
- Possesses working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures
- Uses appropriate modalities and procedures correctly demonstrating knowledge of indications and contraindications
- Assures appropriate equipment performance prior to each use
- Organizes schedule to reflect patient priorities, needs of other staff, and the department needs and responsibilities
- Provides in-service to staff
- Provides clinical education for SLP students
- Informs supervisor of incidents, accidents, equipment failure or unusual physician or patient
- problems immediately, initiating appropriate action.
- Maintains a working knowledge of routine clerical procedures
- Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
- Maintains safe environment
- Addresses patient population –specific needs
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology/Communication Sciences and Disorders
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Completion of Clinical Fellowship. After completion of 3 full years/beginning of 4th year may be eligible for Speech Language Pathologist Level II.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Competency in performing Modified Barium Swallow Exams. Competency in Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). Spanish Proficiency
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: NEW GRADUATES: Possession of Intern License from the state of Texas prior to orientation. ALL OTHERS: Possession of Texas State License and Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA)

REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
