Job Summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Sunnyvale is seeking a dedicated Critical Care Nurse Educator to collaborate with department managers and unit leaders in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating orientation, competency validation, and continuing education programs for nursing staff. The Clinical Educator will support nursing excellence through evidence-based practice, professional development, quality improvement initiatives, and staff competency management. Reporting directly to the Emergency Department Nursing Director, this position plays a vital role in promoting high-quality patient care, supporting regulatory compliance, and advancing professional nursing practice throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Critical Care Nurse Educator assesses trends in patient care, healthcare delivery systems, nursing education, and nursing practice to determine their impact on departmental and organizational goals. This role develops and delivers educational programs, evaluates staff competencies, facilitates professional development, and collaborates with nursing leadership to ensure excellence in clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • The ideal candidate is an experienced critical care nurse with a passion for education, quality improvement, and staff development.
  • Assess learning needs of nursing personnel and develop educational plans consistent with job responsibilities and organizational goals.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate clinical competency programs utilizing reliable and valid competency validation methods.
  • Coordinate onboarding, orientation, mandatory education, and department-specific training programs.
  • Design and deliver educational programs that meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
  • Utilize evidence-based educational practices and adult learning principles to support staff development.
  • Evaluate educational program effectiveness and modify content and delivery methods as needed.
  • Monitor educational resource utilization and redesign processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Serve as an educational consultant to managers and nursing leaders regarding staff learning and performance improvement needs.
  • Promote high standards of nursing care through education, mentoring, coaching, and role modeling.
  • Evaluate clinical practice outcomes and identify opportunities to improve patient safety and quality of care.
  • Monitor and review quality metrics to ensure standards of care are consistently met.
  • Lead or facilitate performance improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve clinical outcomes and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices in education, staff development, change management, and critical care nursing.
  • Actively participate in decision-making, process improvement, and professional nursing practice initiatives within the organization.
  • Partner with nursing leadership to support professional development and succession planning.
  • Facilitate special projects designed to enhance nursing practice and patient care outcomes.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to identify educational needs and implement solutions.
  • Support a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and clinical excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical education principles, competency validation, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in ICU setting – minimum 4 years required
  • Prior experience as a Clinical Educator, Staff Development Specialist, Charge Nurse, or Nursing Leader.
  • Required certification (BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS) or willingness to obtain within one year.
  • CPI certification or willingness to obtain within one year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Surgical Services (Perioperative Services) strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Education, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
