Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director for Professional Practice, the person in this position collaborates with members of the healthcare team to assess, and develop treatment plans for patients with pressure injuries as well as provide education for staff and input into evidence based practices and products to prevent pressure injuries. The person in this position responds to consults for care and education of patients with abdominal stomas, wounds, fistulas, drains, and incontinence.
Responsibilities
- Provide Specialized Ostomy Care and Support - Assess patients before and after ostomy surgery, educate patients and families, and develop discharge plans to support successful recovery and self-care.
- Manage Complex Wounds, Fistulas, and Skin Conditions - Deliver consultation and direct care for patients with wounds, fistulas, pressure injuries, skin tears, ulcers, and other skin integrity issues, including developing and evaluating treatment plans.
- Serve as a Clinical Resource and Consultant - Support hospitalized patients with existing ostomies and provide expert guidance to nurses and healthcare staff on ostomy, wound, and skin care management.
- Educate Patients and Healthcare Staff - Conduct formal and informal education, staff training, in-services, and updates on best practices, products, and advances in wound, ostomy, and skin care.
- Ensure Quality Standards and Program Oversight - Maintain certification and clinical competency, monitor outcomes (including HAPI reporting), evaluate products and supplies, maintain records and statistics, and establish standards of care for wound and ostomy services.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Education:
- The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of an Associate’s Degree in nursing
- completion of an accredited program in wound and ostomy care, professional education program
- Experience: Five years of clinical nursing experience. Minimum of six months to one year in specialty
- Licensure/Certification:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- Maintains board certification or becomes board certified within one year of graduation from accredited wound and ostomy programs
