Summary
Provides respiratory care to patients. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Performs all aspects of respiratory care to include diagnostic test of the cardio-pulmonary system; performs quality control on all respiratory care equipment to include I-STAT blood gas analyzers.

- Major Responsibilities:
1. Identifies issues in respiratory care delivery and seeks solutions for problems. Documents actions taken. Resolves operational issues and evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved. Demonstrates decision-making skills by establishing priorities and initiating actions.
3. Performs all essential functions with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient as well as neonatal care
4. Works with the Manager and Director to develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and objectives and ensures respiratory care practice standards and health and safety requirements are met. Keeps Respiratory Care Manager and Director informed of workloads, changes in patient and employee needs, and other personnel or operational problems.
5. Administers respiratory care in accordance with physician orders or protocol. Accepts and enters verbal and telephonic orders from physicians into patient charts. Sets up and operates devices aerosol generators and bedside pulmonary function testing equipment.
6. Monitors equipment to ensure specific parameters are maintained. Performs chest physiotherapy and bronchopulmonary drainage procedures. Assists patients with breathing exercises utilizing incentive spirometry. Instructs patients and families in therapeutic modalities and equipment use. Monitors the physiologic response of patients to therapy and suggests therapy changes. Maintains patient charts entering therapy ventilator and monitoring information
II. Position Qualifications
1. Licensure by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Respiratory Therapist.
2. Minimum of a two year Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care.
3. Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC.
4. Current BLS certification (AHA)
Preferred:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. NRP certification
Experience/Skill:
Required:
1. Thorough knowledge of the specialized field of respiratory care.
