Established in 1961, Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital is a premiere medical campus serving Tucson and the Southwest. St. Joseph’s is home to a Level 1 Trauma Center, the Carondelet Neurological Institute and the Carondelet Joint Replacement Center.
Here you’ll find one of the region’s most comfortable labor and delivery units as well as high-quality care and customer service in programs such as cardiology, orthopedics, oncology, wound care, stroke, diabetes, emergency medicine and rehabilitation.
The 486-bed facility is an accredited Chest Pain Center, has been recognized by the American Heart and Stroke Association with a Get with the Guidelines Award for stroke care, and has nationally-certified Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Chief Financial Officer (ACFO) is responsible for safeguarding facility assets and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP. This role helps oversee compliance with financial policies, the effectiveness of internal controls, and overall financial governance.
As a key member of the facility leadership team, the ACFO partners with the CFO, CEO and A-Team to develop and execute strategic and financial plans, while maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies.
The Assistant Chief Financial Officer collaborates with the Market Chief Financial Officer and assumes responsibility for the ongoing effective operation of the department by exerting a leadership role that supports the hospitals, mission, vision, goals and objectives while focusing on the patient, physicians, employees, volunteers and the community as customers. The Assistant Chief Financial Officer supports the continuous assessment, improvement, coordination and integration into the hospitals’ and market’s financial functions.
Responsibilities
FUNCTIONAL EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
The ACFO helps lead financial strategy, planning, and performance management for the facility, including risk identification, mitigation, and communication of financial risks and opportunities. This role collaborates closely with corporate functions (e.g., Accounting, Audit, Legal, Treasury, IT) to ensure alignment and operational effectiveness.
Key responsibilities include (supporting the CFO/Market CFO):
- Financial Performance & Planning
- Analyze daily operating results to ensure that revenues, expenses, and labor are within budgeted objectives; advise department heads and administration of needed changes and improvements
- Drive productivity and length of stay (LOS) initiatives to optimize operational efficiency, resource utilization, and financial performance
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow plans (including rolling forecasts)
- Provide accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis
- Controls & Compliance
- Maintain strong internal controls, financial systems, and recordkeeping
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, GAAP, and company policies
- Promote ethical financial practices and audit readiness
- Revenue Cycle & Operations
- Manage revenue cycle performance, including denials management, reimbursement, charge capture, and collections
- Partner with stakeholders to improve financial and operational outcomes
- Capital & Investment Management
- Evaluate capital projects and business opportunities, assessing financial impact and ROI
- Manage capital deployment in alignment with financial plans
- Strategic Leadership
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, growth opportunities, and financial planning
- Analyze new business opportunities, including managed care contracts and program expansion

Qualifications
CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive financial leadership experience; Healthcare/hospital experience is required
- Strong background in financial operations, planning, reimbursement, and capital management
- Demonstrated success improving financial performance in complex environments
- Experience with managed care contracting and regulatory compliance
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights
- Collaborative leadership style with ability to influence across functions
- High integrity, sound judgment, and strong communication skills
- Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required (or Business degree with Accounting/Finance focus or a CPA)
- MBA, MHA, and/or CPA strongly preferred
